I was speaking to the secretary at the game fair at drumlanrig today. She says they are like a blue texel, only hardier. 30 ish flocks now in uk. I asked if she was getting much interest in them, and she assured me they were getting lots!

Friend of mine recently bought some, his children wanted a small flock and they were available plus bit of a novelty for them. We just discussed throwing the stock ram out with some of my commercial ewe lambs as an experiment, will keep you updated in the spring...

They will no doubt be a target for beholders of mainstream breeds and the hard-core no feed brigade.

But they may be useful, and as for a trough in the field, most of them are be going to shows since they are a novelty just now, and as with most breeds, show animals get fed.
I wouldn't like to write a breed off simply because the show animals of said breed get fed for shows.

I would hope that a true stock person would have the confidence and skills required to judge an animal without worrying if it eats out if a trough or not.

Nobody on here tried them?only worrying thing ive seen is most pictures ive seen they have a trough in the picture.

Still very early days in the UK for these. IIRC the society website was only launched last summer. For one of the founding flocks to be just at Lockerbie, I know very little of them.

Do they leave white lambs? They look easy enough lambing, and there's a growthy look to then... but like everything you need to see them in the flesh to get a right idea of what your looking at.

Honestly, I'm not sure another 'type' of Texel - or any other breed for that matter - is really needed (n) there's a vast wealth of choice already... if breeders would concentrate on commercial traits, instead of having to invent new 'breeds' to fill a gap left by established breeds becoming too hard lambing...
