I know a couple of people who have them , but to be honest while they have fun on them they where bought with the intention of getting fit and loosing weight and its not worked for either of them. I would think one of them has gained weight and the other lost nothing , by there admission the temptation to press the turbo button on any climb takes some overcoming so any fitness advantage diminished
Considering you have posted this in "fitness and weight loss" maybe you need a normal mountain bike ?

Thanks for the reply wasnt really sure where to put it.

I have never actually ridden a e bike so not seen how much help they give.

I currently have a scott s35 and a specialised Sirius but was thinking about getting back into trails I did have a 10 year old cube ams 125 but got rid as it needed a fair bit of work doing.

I have been toying in my head between e bike or just new bike and really can't decide.

The only thing I am thinking with the e bike is it would make me more inclined to go out.

They are both road bikes are they ? Thy Guys I was on about bought Mountain e bikes that seem far more common than Road E bikes.
I do a bit of both but on non e bikes , I road ride on Mountain bike with road tires i find it pretty easy effort wise even including big hills but mountain bike gearing does help but it weighs 15 KG so take a bit of effort much more than a Normal road bike . Putting a motor on road bike would i think in all honesty be pretty pointless as the effort level would be reduced to almost zero
However I find motivation to ride on the road much harder than mountain biking, That I love , climbs and descents I love them both I find there is much more to think about picking a line etc that make it much more absorbing that takes your mind of the effort involved.
There are some great e bikes out there and for £3K you will get a good one but i think you would benefit more form just having a mate go for ride with you , there is nothing like someone else to motivate you to get out .

Yes one road one hybrid. i do need to find some new people to ride with since I moved away lost the group I rode with almost daily before I moved we were doing 300 plus miles a week of mtb.

I worry though if I buy another normal mtb I will then be annoyed I didn't get an e

You should really try one , I went fat biking for a day on a SKI holiday a couple of years a go on an e bike and as soon as you put weight on the pedals they are off , the standard set up is related to torque put through the pedals and you have 3 setting low medium and Turbo , in low you put in more effort and less so in the other settings.
In the snow you had to use the lowest setting as you needed to put effort in to keep warm enough as in the two higher setting it was pretty much no effort required it was great fun and i can see the appeal but not for me if you are fit enough to pedal it would only mean you need to go out for longer and further to use up the same of energy.
allot of mountain bikes in particular are now getting "chipped" to remove the top speed limiter and effectively becoming electric motorbikes with pedals and fitting a throttle to them so you don,t need pedal , that is a slippery slope in my opinion.
like allot of people I would never say never if you are genuinely disabled they must be god send , the best option in my opinon is get more couples riding , by the wife an ebike and get out together .

I converted my Pashley mountainish bike by buying a kit with a motor in the front wheel, it was around £400. I live at the top of a hill, with three roads coming in. I find that I ride the bike without assistance on the flat, and use the electric for hills. Without electric I don't think I would go out so much with the thought of the last hill coming home.
You have to be very careful 'chipping' ebikes. The law is no more than a 250 watt motor, and max speed 15 1/2 MPH. If the wrong clued up copper caught you with something bigger than that it makes it a motorbike and you can get done for no tax, insurance, licence and even get breathalised if you've had a few pints.

£3k does buy you a hell of a non e bike perhaps that’s worth a think. If you want to see what the TFF cyclists are up to look for the TFF Velo club on Strava :)

Bg
I think I joined the tff strava. I'm so torn I think I need to try and get one to try I think I will like to start but then love will wear and i will want to back to regular.

Tends to be more road where I am

I am converting a decent hybrid bike I no longer use with a Swytch kit, for basically going down the pub and the sort of journeys where I hate taking the car for environmental reasons. An E car will be outside my price range for some time. I have two good road racing / touring bikes and I don't want to buy another bike so converting my old hybrid is an excellent and cheaper way of going electric. I am a cyclist who competes in Triathlons and the occasional 100 mile Sportive, but I hate going to the pub for an evening out sweating from a headwind.

Toying with the idea of an ebike . loads of trails around me but the ascent are steep.by the time you've done a couple of trails you know about it

Mate just hired a cube did a trail that would normally take good hour+.he was up an back down in 40 mins.

if you take your ebike down the pub do drink drive laws apply
I believe that you can be guilty of being unfit to bike or ride a horse or drive a boat, etc and prosecuted as such, but it will not affect your vehicle license. However, if that is wrong, I would be grateful for someone to correct my assumption. By the way, I am too old / sensible to go on massive drink benders, I am only talking about a couple of pints or perhaps 3 or 4 pints max on special occasions, and the nearest pub is 5 miles away, and the one I prefer is 7 miles away, and always head wind going.
