Earn £500/day for access to your arable land - a serious proposal

Now that the referendum is over, does anyone want to earn some cash?

I’m looking for friendly farmer/landowners who wants to earn up to £3,000 per year for a few days limited access to their land each year.

We’re a small, friendly, members-only metal detecting club based in north-west London, looking to work with an exclusive group of farmers in the northern home counties (Bucks, Beds, Herts) to build a long term business relationship.

We will pay £500 / day for access to your fields. Minimum 25 acres available per visit. Maximum 4-6 visits per year, depending on the size of the land available.

We pride ourselves in the conduct of our members. There is a maximum of 30 detectors attending each dig. We have impeccable etiquette and rules, and adhere to your rules for your land. All members have been screened, and formally identified, together with having membership of the MDNC. The club chairman attends every dig, to ensure things run smoothly. No dogs, camper vans or anything that could impact the smooth running of your farm. Fully insured.

Farmers/Landowners will of course take an agreed share of any valuable finds. Typically 50/50.

If you’ve had issues with metal detectorists in the past, now is your chance to give the hobby another chance. We are looking for a long term business partnership that allows you incremental and regular annual income. God knows, with Brexit, we’re all going to need it.

Let me know if you want to find out more, and I can give you a call / arrange a visit etc.

Thank you.

Sir

Please don't instruct us to "not post here" if we have had a bad experience. You sound like a dictator!

I allowed three "I promise we will behave" metal detector groups into my farm, and it was a nightmare.

1. Litter.

2. Dog 5hit.

3. Parking on my mown grass.

4. Gates left open.

5. My wife told to "get out of the way" of a bloke who'd invited his mate with a camper van.

6. And, can you believe it, a bill from one idiot the following week for a puncture!!

I'd rather pull my teeth out with a telehandler than have metal detectorists back.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your post. It sounds like you had a really awful set of experiences. These groups were clearly not intending to form a long term business partnership with you, that would offer you regular incremental income.

I wholeheartedly agree with you that this is an open forum and members can post whatever experiences they choose. If the editing function allows me, I will amend the elements of the thread that offended you and I thank you for the feedback. This is my first thread in the forum and I have not yet grasped the etiquette.

Yours truly,
ra1

Have had exactly the same experience with a couple of groups. Not worth the hassle, and for £20 a head - jog on

Better off with established, local clubs that build their reputation by hard free graft and that understand/work with the farming & local community rather than trying to wave unimpressive wads of cash around.

Is all the money you take from the "punters" going to the landowner or are you claiming "expenses" (there aren`t any unless its a weekender with loos & skips)??
What happens to items of value that fall outside of the Treasure Act?
Are they insured? There is no such organisation as the MDNC (its the NCMD there`s a hint!)
Have you done a risk assesment?
Do you have event insurance?
How does your plan fit in with the FER? Etc etc etc.... its not just turn up & fill your pockets.

When your "club" has been doing it for 40+ years come back and let us know how to do it. :)
