Flailed some off 2 years ago on a steep bank and the stumps are rotting now.

I'm pretty sure Grazon 90 in a knapsack will kill any regrowth,I did a few and it seemed to kill them.(y)

I'll be running the flail over it tomorrow to tidy up the bits we missed and smash the remainder of the stumps.

Depending on how it looks after that I may just broadcast rape seed and see what it looks like after the cattle have moiled it up for the winter.

True or false, never burn gorse, it opens up the seed in the ground so it can germinate and grow?:scratchhead: you get gorse growing 4m+ up there?:banghead:

It depends on the outcome you want. Yes, burning "fire cracks" the seed and allows it to germinate, or rather allows more seeds to germinate at the one time.

However, there's a long term treatment theory out there that would advocate burning to reduce the seed bank built up in the ground. Burn, wait for germination/regrowth, spray. The figures I read (actually that was from spray, burn when dead, allow germination/regrowth, spray) was the seed bank would be reduced to a 15 year problem from a 30 year problem.

Aren't weeds great.

can yer get your hands on a very high HP rated rotospike ? or a foresty mulcher
done areas like that before smash the hell out of them in to the ground regrowth is close to nill plant a covering crop rape kale etc to choke out seedlings frist year then go in to perm as soon as to keep ground choked as much as you can to keep it under control

unless it's a hevey flail you might have 2 bits by the end of the day gorse stumps are quite dence

FF gorse in NZ is like pine trees grows alot better and spreads quicker here if i recall right someone told be they did trials here growing it think there was 17 types at times you see it here some grow a bit diffrent some animals graze etc etc
