Easycare sheep experiment

Easy cares do not mean easy or good it’s just a term slapped on all wool shedding sheep. Unless you buy Exlanas from a breeder like @Tim W that are thoroughly recorded you may as well stick with mules.
Easycare is, ofcourse, a breed.

This is where I make the point that there are recorded Easycare flocks, as run by myself, @Johngee, @wee man and a few others. As with Exlanas, the idea is to keep the labour saving advantages and improve performance.

Cade’s should never be kept on, I used to find 2-3 cades even in November in a bunch of 100 lambs would cause havoc for the dogs and us when handling 😡 the last 2 years I had any because of a school learning program they were killed regardless of weight at 12 weeks when weaned.
Personally, I do not have any argument with your viewpoint!! Maybe you should swing by for a brew and impart your knowledge to Herself...;) She likes them for pet ewes as they are easy to gather and handle, as we have no dog.... other than shooting Labs

Normally though, they are kept away from commercials. :)

i dont really see how it can work when the best ewes are a 1st cross. cheviot beulah is my personal choice for hill sheep. is the idea you use a blueface ram and breed easycare mules? but then you dont have the wool shedding? doesnt make sense to me

not the first time its been mentioned but a new breed name would help.
especially for what sounds like an 'elite group' for want of a better way of putting it of yours.

Exlana, easycare, buy a Texel if you dare,
Aberdoesitallitself, better leave it on the shelf,
Logie Durno, Lowerye, which one do I buy?
So many breeds to choose from, which one should I really try?
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.

Charollais, lambed in May, grows 400gms a day,
Suffolk lambs from Easyrams, no need to lend a hand
Blufaced Leicester, Bleu du Maine, some say they’re just the same
Charmoise, Rouge du la Oest, which one really is the best?
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.

Highlander, Lowlander or best buy a Freelander?
Beltex meat isn’t sweet, Berrichon have bad feet.
Crossbred rams on any dams, always breed the best lambs.
Not recorded, it’s such a shame that I’m not educated.
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.
We didn’t start these breeds off, they were always breeding,
They were always breeding.

easycare are not easy to care for. if there was an easycare breed its welsh mountains, they do take some killing 😂

An ‘Easycare’ is just a Welsh Mountain crossed with a Wiltshire Horn, or it was originally a way. So basically a Welshy that sheds.

An Exlana is mostly a Lleyn x Wiltshire Horn, with a few other bits & pieces crisscrossed, and the progeny selected on recorded performance.

They are all feral pillocks that (mostly) don’t need shearing.
