Easycares and blowfly

We put 100 easycare ewes to texel tup this time and have treated all half bred lambs with clik extra at same time as first heptavac injection. They all graze very fly prone water meadows. Ewes untreated. no strike yet!
Pure flock all untreated.
Pure texels all had clik extra.

With all things considered, why haven’t more sheep farmers gone for Easycare / exlana sheep? Are they making a fortune off wool [emoji848].
When you weigh up pros and cons of different breeds surely they must make more sense.

I understand some wanting to keep breeds going etc and pedigree breeders but for large commercial flocks I’d have thought they must be the way forward. I’m missing something [emoji848]
My ring fenced main holding which is mainly mules and texX work well there and we’re paid big bonus’s on E/U’s, so much so that it’s £6/lamb premium if we hit the top grades, over 1200 lambs off that farm it’s a bigger difference to lose out on just yet if we moved totally Exlana. We’re hoping within 3-4 years all ewes not in the ring fence will be Exlana x’s.

There’s a lot of people in this sort of scenario and a lot of people who don’t like change. Personally I’ve always gone with the motto “if you stand still in farming you end up going backwards, pretty f’ing quick too!”

There's more folk running them on a big scale than you might think. Me and a pal put our heads together and counted up 20,000 in big flocks in this area. They'll be selling deadweight, so you won't see them at the mart.

Perhaps they’re just a bit slow spreading all the way to west wales. True about deadweight. Last year’s lambs went to Hereford and even there there were funny looks so you can just imagine the local mart.
