I need a new bottle jack, there's several on ebay from £25 up with no real differential between them.
Has anyone any recommendations for whats what?

TIA

By the looks of it I'm safer stay off Ebay. I got one from the local toolshop a few years ago and with only occasional use, it has give up so that's why I want to look elsewhere.

You really don't want to be buying a bottle jack from anywhere other than a respectable company.

Unfortunately nearly £20 to deliver that to NI. Otherwise it seemed good value for having a 2 year warranty

Niall, you could always buy a few more bits & pieces to take your order over £50 free delivery, or are they still charging you extra to deliver to NI ?

I notice SGS do lots of other items.

Is it just me that would expect to pay a few hundred quid for a decent 20T bottle jack?

I bought a second hand 2.5T or 3T Compac long body trolley jack back in 2013 when I lived away. It was £100, has done me proud with my domestic cars over the years, and is now the farm jack for anything smaller than a tractor. It's certainly done better than a few years of occasional use...

When our big bottle jack goes (the one the old man bought at a sale), I'll be heading here: https://www.weberuk.com/shop/
I'd expect whatever I bought to see me out, even if I bought it today (I'm 36).

I bought one of those cheap bottle Jacks of ebay and found it pretty good. But no way would it lift 20t maybe 6. But for what it cost I taught it was still value. Can just about lift the back of tractor off the ground on both wheels. And it weighs 9t. So does all I want

I agree, it's an old adage, you get what you pay for. It largely depends on how much you intend to use it I guess, you perhaps but a cheaper 30 ton or even 50 ton Jack rather than an expensive ( few hundred quid ) 20 ton Jack.

I've a Draper 20ton bottle jack, looks identical to that SGS one but mine is blue.
Think I gave £30 odd for it about 10yrs ago and its been no bother, good adjustment and stroke as well.
Don't have anything 20ton to lift with it but it whips up the combine front axle no bother.

I bought a cheap 2 stage 20 ton jack from ebay a few years ago (under £50). It works well and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't seem to be any different in quality to a smaller branded one we have.
How many of you guys are actually wanting to lift 20 ton with a jack? I doubt ours will ever be used on more than 5 ton and rarely more than 2 or 3 since we don't have any monsterous machinery but a 20 ton jack is fat, stable and much safer than a scrawny little jack working on it's limit

I have 2 bottle jacks a 20ton and a 12ton that will extend as normal without a load, but put even 0.5 tonne of a lift on them and all they do is rise when the plunger lever is activated and then fall again.

Is it a non return valve has failed ?

Worth pulling them apart to try and fix or give them to the scrap man ?

I brought an air operated low entry 20t jack for about £60 on eBay 10-15 years ago. Never let us down yet. Always put blocks or something under when I'm working though no matter how expensive the jack.

To every one saying an expensive jack is better, any old jack will do to lift whatever you want to lift. You should ALWAYS support everything while jacking it with axle stands or appropriate wooden blocks. Jack it up, support it, take weight slightly off jack then remove the wheel. I wouldn’t trust a gold plated, titanium built £3million pound jack to hold anything up. It’s axle stands that should be invested in not expensive jacks
