Ebay Scam

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horsch-Seed-Drill/152433706418
Scam written all over it, seller serdau_u (0), no other items, no feedback, bad translation, dubious payment means,
This is what I mean, walk away quickly.
But don't let it deter you, there is plenty of genuine sellers out there.

If I wanted it I`d ask for his address and land line number , if all checked out I`d jump in the car and go and have a look , a wasted journey could be £2500 saved.

My feelings entirely.
I was the under bidder on this a couple of nights ago. Hammer went down at £2800 something. Fair enough I thought. 24hrs latter I get a 'Second Chance Offer' on it with the message from seller saying, and I quote

"I can agree to sell it to you for your last bid because the winner is not willing to complete payment. If you are really sure you want to buy and you have funds ready for fast payment, we have a deal. For payment bacs. Let me know first".

It's now relisted buy it now at my maximum bid. Told the guy that no money is going anywhere until I've met him and seen the drill. Not heard a word since.

It's scandalous imo that there is absolutely no protection with bacs :scratchhead:

I have used Bacs for millions of pounds of payments if i have any concerns at all I send a small sum first perhaps £5 and make sure I know who received the money.
I cannot see why we need extra protection which will involve an insurance cost.
Anyone using bacs for paying outside Ebay is their own fool if they have not got the goods first.

My experiences for buying off eBay.
Small new items buy from sellers with a lot of feedback. Pay with PayPal. No problems really.
Ideally from businesses with an actual shop and phone number.

Large items are the problem. The seller will often want to complete out of eBay and definitely not want paypal as the costs are quite big.
I bought a £500 item second hand from eBay but paid for it on collection through their card reader at their shop. They also cancelled the sale through eBay to save costs. They do this with the majority of sales.

If no phone number on ebay I message the seller and ask for a mobile and a land line number.
Also I want a name which then gets Google and check on facebook.
Ask to come and view even if it's not really going to happen. Genuine sellers won't have a problem.
If there is any talk that they work on an oil rig or similar so viewing won't be possible till after the sale finishes chances are they are scammers.
I ask for close up photos of a specific particular part of the machine. They can only do this if they have the machine.
If they say free nationwide delivery on a big item such as a large implement or tractor it's a scam.

Most sellers are genuine really so a bit of investigation before parting with money they will be happy enough.
Also remember that for every bad seller there will be quite a number of bad buyers. It works both ways!

There is a hell of a lot of scams lately with machienry being for sale for stupidly unrealistic pricing for the various bits of machinery and somehow they think people are gullible enough not sure why they even think they'll get away with it.
Somehow???, the OP paid a third of what the machine was worth and they seem to have got away with it. As has already said £5k could be a couple of years wages where these scammers operate from so one bite every year and they could live like kings.

Sorry but I think you got carried away with the thought of a bargain,
So the outcome of your negativity towards eBay, then effects my advertising of machinery and equipment, and future sales.
There is often scam adverts in farm trader, but no one picks up on those.
All in all a little more research and less naivety would have prevented your purchase, and your loss,
Apologies if this sounds harsh.
Sadly ars'les everywhere not just ebay, I rang a dealer about a tractor, told I was just too late, same tractor turned up in the east the next week ,at a dealers, having lost several thousand hrs, miraculous! strangely all his machines seemed to have 'genuine' low hrs.
