EBLEX

EBLEX is the organisation for beef and lamb levy payers in England.

We exist to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the English beef and lamb sector. Our aims are:

  • To help the beef and sheep meat supply chain become more efficient
  • To add value to the beef and sheep meat industry.
Research and development

Research and development is a core part of delivering the EBLEX strategy.

EBLEX funds R&D that:
  • delivers practical improvement opportunities to levy payers in the short to medium term
  • provides objective information to support industry decision making
  • supports other strategic objectives
Where possible EBLEX also seeks to maximise the impact of its expenditure by leveraging funding from other sources to deliver benefit to levy payers.

Research objectives

The objectives of the EBLEX R&D programme are to:
  • improve genetic selection methods for significant market traits
  • improve health and welfare through health planning, better biosecurity and improve understanding of animal disease and its control
  • improve animal nutrition and growth through better management
  • develop better integrated systems for beef and sheep production
  • provide practical responses to climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • improve meat quality and safety (including reducing food waste and improving shelf life)

Priority areas for research

The current priorities within these broad objectives are detailed here.
