They have their place but don’t suit all. I’m sure we’ve all seen some animals with amazing EBV’s yet don’t perform at all and neither do their progeny. You also get exact opposite, EBV’s poor yet look and perform to perfection. Take them with a pinch of salt and don’t use them solely.
Not only my opinion, a few of us were talking in a meeting the other day and we all said it was taken into consideration but definetly wasn’t the only reason for selecting the animal.

^This. Just another selection tool to use IME.
I would say that I have seen some amazing looking sheep that 'don't perform at all' too, as well as the exact opposite. The more selection tools you can use, the better the outcome.;)

There are are few awful looking specimens on the ram compare site. One Charollais doesn’t look much. Hope he doesn’t have any Lowerye blood in him!!!

I couldn't tell You as I haven’t looked at any of the photos tbh.

Of course, if any of those ‘awful looking specimens’ are actually producing the goods in commercial lambs (which are not only being weighed & backfat scanned, but also taken down to primal cuts), then maybe it would suggest that it doesn’t matter how ‘awful’ an animal looks, and the figures are in fact all we need to consider?:scratchhead:
Personally, I do hope not.

Presewemably he's only available via AI, so he can't fulfill his dream of being bought for a sml fortune only to drop down d. on catching sight of his first group of ewes?

Got a heller knobbly knee there, though. Is he got by an Aardman sire?
