I keep asking some Galloway folks; I know there's a couple in Norfolk way trialling NoFence and I think both the Surrey Wildlife Trust (James Stoyles) and Ashdown Foresters are using in places

unless you know latest, they were using collars with buried wire. This is another thing altogether.
(with more tech to fail, and even bigger collars)

I don't think electric collars is a good idea for dogs and I certainly don't think this is a good idea for cattle.

We have some Belties we look after for a conservation project using this.
Main drawback is the life of the batteries in the collars.

Well I do think they are a good idea , actually think it’s bloody brilliant idea .

Yes sort of, but are very bloody minded!
They do mostly follow a bag as they are impossible to drive. They are enormously fat as well.

The Sussex are a lot more productive.

Saw this in development nearly 20 years ago. Designed originally for use by the military in areas like Salisbury Plain to stop stock wandering onto the shooting ranges.

A commercial phase was in Auz or NZ, used for ranching. They went as far as operating gate latches, and turning water on and off at field troughs, when used for moving from field to field, all from a laptop in an office.

Warnings started with a bleeper, then mild shocker, then stronger shock etc.

Seems to work well, and ideal to replace the electric fence in my view.

what's the difference between this and a electric fence?

i should think brilliant for sheep on tack especially on open arable ground , how many hrs do we all spend moving fences ,I can see an issue in wooded areas or places with poor signal

Neighbour is demo -ing/hireing about 40 collars on a mob of cattle not cheap but very clever what I can see, move your cattle on your phone !!

Don't they make a noise before they give them a shock so they get used to stopping before the get a shock

They get a buzz as they get closer to the boundary, 3 buzzes then shock.

Collar reliability and battery life would be the main issues for me. And per unit cost. Will the service require you to purchase all the hard wear then a monthly subscription for the GPS service?

Its not really another input but a replacement input
