Hi everyone,

Anyone on tff from Republic of Ireland and can help answer my question?

Borda Bia have the SBLAS assurance scheme, and there is a Quality Payment Bonus. From what I can gather, it's at the discression of the processing factory.

Can anyone enlighten me. Do the processors pay a Quality Payment Bonus for being SBLAS accredited? If so anyone know how much?

Thanks.

I'm in the lamb one. All the big factories operate it. Once your bord bia approved, you automatically get it . Its usually 10 cent a kilo on top of base quote. Smaller operators, butchers etc dont pay it, but will match overall factory price.

Thank you @Green farmer

I've since been looking, and it seems to be €0.20 per kilo for deadweight cattle. So that's €60 on say a 300kg carcass. Basically for being in-spec on the grid AND farm assured.

Just wondered if it actually happened in practice. Which you've confirmed for me - thanks.

No bother, I know absolutely zero about cattle, can only comment about sheep. But you automatically get it with the sheep anyway.

Thanks, very helpful.

What's the SBLAS scheme like? Is the audit easy, or quite hard to pass?

Edit. I believe you have to be SBLAS assured to get the premium. Is SBLAS free for the farmer? Oh, and do you need to be SBLAS if you are a 'small farmer'?

Sorry for all the questions.

You get audited every 18 months by bord bia. Guy comes out and checks everything. Theres a good bit of work to it, have to have all records straight. I suppose it's just another hoop we've all to jump through. I'm a small farmer, in order to get into some other government schemes, it's a condition that you've to be in this scheme. Some lads are in it others are not. It's not worth much money , but up to €2.30 a head on each lamb adds up. The way I see it, is it pays for the diesal when drawing a trailer of lambs to the factory.
