Electric and data cable in same duct

Can I run a cat5 cable in the same duct as a swa cable or will the power cable cause interference with the data cable?

If not can they run in separate ducts in the same trench?

I'm going to trench across the yard for a new power supply and it makes sense to put a duct in for a data cable at the same time.

It causes interference. How I've done it in the past is puts 2 ducts in trench one at one side and one at other with about 200mm of sand between the two

You can get screened power and screened data cable and can run together, if both are non screened I am not sure even in the same trench is good enough.

Thank you. Guess I could go a bit deeper put the cable duct in the bottom of the trench then sand with the data duct on top. I was hoping to use the 6" bucket so not really room for 2 ducts side by side with sand in between

Data cable along side swa isn't as bad as t&e etc.

However running separate duct like 32mm water pipe etc is a better method and easier when you want to pull cable.

How long is the run?

Also, depending on the run, fiber maybe a better solution and interference wouldn't be an issue then.

NEVER use water pipe as a duct! Seen too many people cut through a water pipe with snips when making a connection or tracing water pipes only to find an electric cable inside.

It may not appear dangerous at the time but the next person or a contractor will not know. Not worth the risk!

Agree NEVER EVER use water pipe as ducting!!!!!!!!!!

me and @BAC found this
