I havnt used Rappa but the Gallagher turbo line vibroflex 9 strand is what I bought a few years ago and even though it’s full of knots from cuts and joining it’s still really good - at the time Gallagher had a chart on voltage over mass mileage and it was far better than anything else!

If you're moving it with any regularity, then the Rappa ATV system is hard to beat for speed and ease of use.

For permanent installations I'd use high tensile galv for perimeter with poly wire internal fences.

+1 on Rappa. I bought a load 16 years ago and it is still going strong. The only time the poly wire has got damaged is where I have left it laid out too long after the sheep have moved and the rabbits have nibbled it.

ive turned away from rappa for moving fences - the orange string is also harder for sheep to see - ive gone with white taragate polybraid - much better and more hardwearing.
3:1 geared reels and multi lines on one wheel.
long runs - as others have said rappa - their end posts and posts are easily the best atm - ive got 20 yr old posts still working fab.
- think long and hard about the steel line - is a nightmare to reel up if any kinks and when snapped makes a birdsnest.

ideally id like to have gone for gallagher fence posts as they have an extra foot spike...

if itll be semi - perm go for rebar and plastic insulators with wooden corner posts.

OH and have a dedicated hotline down the edge of each field - saves moving energisers and means you can have a proper good reliable ground system

voss do several types of wire, we use heavy duty, with 3 stainless steel, and 3 copper wire through.
Much thicker than usual stuff, and visible, can get 1000 meter rolls.

Always use braid, it's much stronger and more conductive than the twist type, and the metal is far less likely to break. Gallagher is my preference.

If I was buying a kit I would seriously look at Kiwitech, although I've seen people reeling 3 wires onto one geared reel which could be quite a neat setup.

Kiwitech posts seem to be the best, other fibreglass posts are available. I find new plastic posts are not UV stabilised to go brittle very quickly.

Nobody ever seems to mention Rutland kit on these threads but we have some sets going strong after 25 years.
Rutland blue £2 posts are very good! Rutland reels arnt as good as they used to be and arnt geared. I had to grind notches onto the mounting post of all 3 of mine as they just continuously vibrates down the post when pulling out or reeling in.

I’m hoping to get a few 1,000m geared reels before long for better output!

Rappa reels and rutland poly posts here. Bought an ATV rappa last year to move away from the back breaking barrow. Best investment ever! I don't think the Rappa steel end/corner posts are as strong as they used to be, I have completely rebuilt 2 reel hangers after the tops bent and tubes cracked so will probably just carry on making my own as and when I need more

voss do some metal stakes, fine for splitting fences, at £1.20,
Here we have some mysterious animal that eats stakes. I have never worked out where stakes go, we do not find many when ploughing / working, anyone else have this problem?

3 wires on one geared reel is the bomb, various sized reels with various lengths, write the length on the reel.

Very definitely. I'm always buying stakes, but always seem short. Not aware that anyone's helping themselves to them, just there never seems sufficient around for the number I buy.

I do agree they don't seem to stick the sun and last as well as some of my older ones. (Various sorts).
