As they are not trained to an electric fence then put up a short length with a powerfull fencer and teach them a small wire can give a large kick . If you do not the electric fence will not deter them especially if the calves are running ahead of the cows

Make sure the fencer is at least throwing 1.5 joules of power as if any vegitation touches it power loss will be highOK, thanks

So you'll want permanent sides to your lane and a moveable break fence? Distance of each?
He just wants to strip graze some sucklers,no need to over think it surely.

If it's just 1 break fence across a field, with stocknet either side then have 3x geared reels and some cheap posts from eBay 1post per 10m).
Then you can have a back fence, a front fence and a next days front fence. Every day let the cattle forward a cell and move the back fence to become the new next days front fence.
