hi
anyone have experience of temporary electric fencing for goats ? How many wires ? etc
4, we borrowed our neighbour's deer stuff.

That was to make them eat gorse and broom, which they did, but you have to keep them moving or they just "Houdini it"

The problem is that they jump - when they aren't grounded, they don't get a tickle.

You can get extra tall electric fence posts - I think for horses, they might work well if their jumpy goats. It all depends how tight your going to push them, single strand would be ok if they’ve always got plenty and have no reason to test it.

Dad used to say "the wires are for keeping them moving, not holding them back"

It took me an awful lot of research to prove that he knew plenty about it!!

I wholeheartedly agree, if they are trying that much then they are overgrazing the plants . That's not optimum for plants or stock.

Don't kniow about goats but I suspect they are like deer and will jump between the wires. So the point of earthing as mentioned above is that every other wire needs energising and the one next to it should be earthed. An animal that's airborne isn't touching earth unless it's also touching an adjacent wire that is grounded to earth. Or use electrified net.
