Electric snacker options?

So now that we are replacing our 2nd quad with a new buggy unfortunately it wouldnt be easy feeding ewes with the current manual snacker. I quite like my current one with a plastic hopper and swing open lid. Do you get a similar one without a canvas lid but electric? Any idea on prices?

As far as I'm aware... no.
Chapman and Logic are the only 2 electric snackers as far as I'm aware and both have steel hoppers with a tarpaulin. No idea on prices.
You can get the logic snacker with a steel roller canopy for carrying bales/more feed. Had mine 15-17 years and never had water go in - bought it as thought the tarpaulin would blow off.

That the one with the high rail? I always thought it was just a metal lift off lid... is it good?

I like my tarpaulin (but some others don't look so good designed), and it only cost £20 to get a new one custom made. Currently rebuilding the rest of it though :banghead:

Anyone tried a swaledale snacker? They have basically put an electric ram on the sliding gate and uses magnets to work a counter. Good thing would be i could still work it manually on the back of the quad. I have a couple swaledale trailers and cant fault them anyway.

The real benefit of moving from manual to electric is repeatability and ease of use. Once you've set up the drop size to an easy multiple (say 2kg or 2lb), you can set the required number of drops per field or group and know that the machine will drop that amount of feed and then automatically stop.

No struggling to listen to drops on a windy day, no loosing count half way etc. This allows you to focus on checking the stock to pick up on any problem ewes.

Steel hopper is lower and wider than the plastic ones so easier to fill either with a bucket or under a feed bin.

RRP on our TF350 is £1,650 + VAT and available from stock. Also extension sides, oversize tyres and other options available.

2 year warranty on our machines too.

We're happy to talk through the benefits if you want to give us a call tomorrow on 01288 308149, or message me directly on here, just ask.

Thanks

We have a chapman snacker, very well built but the electrics let it down. We had a logic before build quality wasn’t as good but the electrics never missed a beat.
I like being able to count the ewes as they come to the snacker in groups on the hill and feed according rather than have to gather them all together before I start feeding so I can count the drops.
I was asking our dealer if we could fit a logic box to operate our chapman but they said no.
The swaledale stuff looks really well built!

Once it’s turned on it stops counting and I can’t be turned off. Have to pull plug to stop it it and just hope the shutter isn’t open when you pull the plug. Once it was was a broken wire on snacker and the other times it has been the control box. We are onto our third control box.

Hi Iain,

I'd like to get this resolved as they're by and large a very reliable machine, most issues will be around corrosion in the plug / socket or cabling to the machine having mechanical damage. We have seen a number of faults on machines in the past where the cable has been 'pinched' between panels when routed through the ATV, for example. Can you message me with your contact telephone number and I'll call to see what we can do to sort?

The system we use with the countdown function needs to have a signal from the sensor in order to stop at the correct point when the counter reaches zero - you're probably getting an F1 error code show up on the screen? Without a signal it will just keep running, as when we designed the electronics we decided that this would be the best solution in a sensor fault scenario, so that you could still use the machine to a degree without having to resolve the fault immediately. If the controller was set to not run at all without a sensor signal this would obviously be even more infuriating as you wouldn't be able to do any feeding!

Anyhow if you send me your mobile I'll give you a call and sort this out for you.
