Electric start conversion Lister PH2

Finally admitted I am getting old. Tried swinging the handle on my dumper to start it and its jjust not going to happen. Looking for alternatives to get it going. Convert the Lister PH2 engine to electric start seems the obvious solution but where to start. The dumper could be towed but its 4WD so I am worried on winding up the gearbox. Has anyone used a hydraulic motor instead of the starting handle or connect pto to handle shaft.

I use a hydraulic motor with a short adapter shaft with pin to go in place of the starting handle, mine is only a little thwaites with a PH1 but in the cold weather it is just too heavy to get it up to speed.
Hydraulic motor coupled to the digger is easy but a bit more faff to get the digger round to it etc.

what about a spring starter ?, no need for electrics
Trouble is,they don't usually have a ring gear on the flywheel and may not have a mounting place for a starter either.
Father fitted a second flywheel (think it was off an old Mini) to the shaft where the handle goes. Long time ago but I think he bored out the centre and used a taper lock bush. Then welded a backing plate in place to carry a starter motor. Worked a treat.

we did a PH1 dumper - made up a ring gear to fit the fly wheel and made a bracket to hold a starter motor........the problem is as the dumper fly wheel is on the "wrong" end of the engine, you have to then get a starter motor which rotates the "wrong way"..... fairly easy, but just something to watch out for.

Any pictures of this as it sounds the ideal solution. Always have the tractor going so hydraulic power available.

Starting speed of most engine is around 100RPM
Hydraulic motor torque at that low speed may not be adequate, so a direct drive may not work.
A starter motor on the other hand has increased torque as it slows down, but even it is geared to around 12:1 to reduce speed and increase turning force.
Just something to keep in mind ...........
