Cars have gained a lot of momentum the past year or so. I wouldn't be surprised if tractors did too before long.

better torque profile and no worries (in general) with air resistance (drag coefficient), sounds perfect for tractors really. The longer working hours of the harvest time tractor operator is the biggest issue

I remember backing the combine up to a garden fence on the edge of a housing estate and asking the lady in the garden if I could plug in my extension lead. Not likely she said, just imagine how much electricity that thing uses. No, I said, it's not for the combine, it's for the Hoover to clean out the tank. Well that's alright then, she said.

I want one for the diet feeder. Doesn't travel far, needs good dollop of torque, parked most of the day not far from the wind turbine but must start first thing every morning.

Extending that thought, just abolish the tractor altogether and stick it all under the feeder.

Amazing how much we can progress by just turning the clock back

Until batteries become much lighter I just can't see it being viable hauling all that deadweight about. There again, if the front weight was replaced by the battery it would mitigate the losses somewhat.

But needing a front weight is an acceptance of defeat IMO, be Ashe we haven't got away from designing tractors like horses and hanging everything on the arse end.
