Electric Vehicle and charging point

I'm sure its been covered but wondering if any fresh info about.

Are there any grants for installing electric vehicle charging points for a business about? Thinking I'm needing one for my holiday lets.

Also what's the economics of electric vehicles at the moment? I'm currently thinking of getting a used MPV for longer journeys but thinking of getting an electric vehicle for runaround journeys. Wondering how viable this is versus using my existing diesel?

Don't tell me its not climate friendly to have two vehicles as that's not my motivation. Will still be keeping a Defender for farm use and can't see anyway beyond that at the moment

There is a new grant available or soon to be available specifically aimed at businesses and I think it mentions holiday lets. I can’t remember the details but I believe the grants are quite generous. Definitely worth looking into.
We have a BMW i3 for a runaround and love it.

Looking at this. Sparky cars come with a 'granny cable' to plug into 13A socket.
We'll rely on themselves for now.
When we decide to fit a proper one I'll run it from a diesel genny. ;)

Swapped a Leaf for a XC90, and have not regretted it. I know not like for like, but am saving about £150 month on fuel. October cost about £50 in electric where as i am sure the Volvo would have been nearer £200. The car was due to be changed anyway so it all made sense.
Came with a granny cable and so for the first few weeks just plugged it in to a 13amp socket and charged overnight. Have put in a proper charger and so can charge in about 6 hours, this cost about £500. We have other vehicles to use for longer journeys so did not need something that covered both types of journeys. Now we are in to the colder months i am playing round with he pre warming of the cabin which is a nice trick.
I am not sure about any new grants for installing the chargers, but with all this green talk there must be something in the pipeline.

We had a few nights in a b&b in mid Wales, and they had a ev charge point which they had got for free. Not sure if they'd had to pay installation.
They'd had it several years but the owner thought there was still similar funding going. Cant remember who they said they'd had it through but could maybe find a contact if you're interested?

This is interesting as my wife's leaf has gone well over 100k miles now and due for replacing. What's your annual milage if you don't mind me asking?

10000 miles probably. It is certainly not over that. Mostly local trips, within a 30 mile radius. We did do few trips in to London in the summer which was good. Its not particularly suited to motorway driving, great for pootling around though.

Took an Kia EV6 for a test drive last week, very, er, futuristic. Pulled well from a standstill right up to 70 (no power band, unlike an engine), nice interior, lots of toys, 320 mile range but told it will be more like 270 in "the real world".
Brake regeneration mode was on flappy paddles either side of the steering wheel, it was more like playing a video game while trying to save energy by not using the brakes.
Not sure about the £38k starting price, but next year they are releasing a 577hp version which is supposed to accelerate faster than a Porsche 911 GT3, for £58k. Who'd have thought it from Kia, absolutely awesome!

Charging. Salesman said 13 amp 3 pin charger comes free, but 3 phase charger would be about £2500. They can be bought with a 'card reader' to allow the public to charge at your premises. He had just spent £8 charging a vehicle at one of these, and it appeared he'd paid 42p/kwh with the garage paying 21p per unit, so doubling their money. You are added to a 'charger finding app' for use on smart phones and sat nav. I'm now planning on being the next John D Rockefeller.

Tax implications: Rishi Sunack has a very generous scheme where 'businesses' can claim 100% of an EV cost against tax in the 1st year. Does this apply to Partnerships, or just Limited Companies? And does it only cover purely business use, or allow for a 'bit' of private mileage?
IIRC, chargers are covered by 130% of tax relief, which is very too!

Make sure that it has a card reader. They can be a very nice earner as you can chose how much margin to add on and no one is going to check before charging. Don’t give the electric away for free.
