Electricity prices

What's everyone paying?
Who's the cheapest in West Midlands?
Not due for renewal till next year but I've got every ruddy broker in the country and beyond ringing and trying to get me to sign a new contract.
I use about 50 k units a year, on a single rate meter running cold stores mostly through autumn/winter /spring.
Should I fix now or hold out till next summer?
Ben offered 1 yr @ 14.7 and 34 p sc or 3 yrs 15.5p and 39 p sc. British Gas. All the quotes are within a few points of a penny. Doesn't seem long ago I was on 9p. And that was too dear.
I just want to get a lower price so I can tell the cold calling brokers to F off. They do my head in and don't seem to understand the phrase " Don't call me, I'll call you if I'm interested".

It bugs me that they always want to know what I'm paying at the moment. I tell them i can't remember off hand, just give me the best price . Then they say they want me to get a bill so I can tell them the rate. I tell them it's none of their business and if they can't quote me without knowing my current rate then I'm not interested.

It does seem dear. I'm paying less for my domestic electric. But no quote is anywhere near 13.5 let alone 12.5 p. Might ring NFU in the morning. I believe they have a buying group.

I just signed up on a 1 yr deal for low use meter with NFU. Was lower than paying now

Buying group closed last night.

Have signed a new deal with NFU this week, for both our supplies. They were miles cheaper than any price comparison site or deal broker that I contacted. Ended up getting a 3 year deal at 3.5 % less than I was paying before.
12k kWh 14.8p and 23.5 sc on a budgeted monthly DD

Much as I question some of the people at the top of the NFUS /NFU and the policies they have, I do get much more than my annual sub back in savings from the various member schemes. The NFU fuel card alone will save us over £1000 annually over buying at forecourt prices, and as I said the electric price was way better than I was getting quoted working on my own

12.5p / 22p is where you should be at with that sort of useage
Where abouts are you? Wonder if I can run a cable from your meter to mine if that's the price you can get. I've had 4 broker quotes, b gas quote and NFU quote and the cheapest 3 yr deal is 14.8 p and 32p s c. with b gas via a price comparison company.
The general consensus is to fix for 2 or 3 yrs as prices are only going one way.

EdF will only give you best prices if you agree to DD, it's 7% more otherwise.
NFU buying group have done me well in recent years.
As an aside I have my house with Robin Hood Energy who have been very well priced, however they seem to have managed to make a £23 million loss.
It's a "not for profit" (obviously) energy company setup by Nottingham City Council in 2015, so if you are from Nottingham, thanks for subsidising my electricity bill!

What's the issue with only allowing a one year quote because of new 3 phase metering arrangements (Half Hourly) Or am I being told Porkies ?

We use less than 25k units P.A. on a single tariff..
Not sure about H H meters. I was told I needed a HH rate when I put a new transformer in and upped my consumption. The prices were extortionate. Managed to eventually stick to standard tarrif. Did consider a 2 rate meter as all my neighbours run their cold stores on it. But the prices I were quoted didn't add up.
I'm getting quotes today for electricity supplied up to August 2024!! A lot can happen in that time. But I guess prices will always rise long term. If prices are high now imagine what's going to happen when every vehicle has switched to electric. Never mind price, we'll be lucky if there's enough electricity to spare.

Just had a e mail from E.on telling me that my current tariff runs out in Nov , and to get the best price I need to go on their "Switch on line v.41" which will be £60 odd dearer than the one I'm on . Not only that , but if I choose not to contact them by 4th Nov they'll put me on their standard "E.on energy plan " at a further £50 dearer ! I've already contacted the NFU , first time 12 months or so back at Stoneleigh to be answered by a completely disinterested youthful sounding lad , who didn't even ask my name , let alone any details . second time today a.m. answered by an equally disinterested youthful female this time , who didn't seem to know what I was on about , requested time "to consult" said that the agent would call me back . Gave her my mobile number --- still awaiting that call ! Excuse me whilst I bang my head against something hard ! Think I'll try that chap off "Dragon's Den " see what he can offer for dual fuel rolling contract .

Anyone else had any quotes in the last week or two?
We have just under 12 months left on a B. Gas Lite contract - that is on 'economy seven ' meter and paying 14.10 and 9.89 . 45 k useage
I have had 3 brokers ring ,Utility Alliance , who didnt quote in the end , Black Sheep ,and Utility Locker , who quoted 17.06 and 11.40 with Opus Energy
This is all against my present broker Love Energy ,telling me 17.14 and 12.7 (These are 3 yr deals )

I would agree with the OP about cold callers falling over themselves to get me to agree - I am in 2 minds really ,wait and see till March April time or do it now if the right one comes about!
Almost tempted to rejoin the NFU to try the buying group prices , :geek:

I'm not doing 3 and 4-year deals anymore, since Opus put their prices up just 10 months into a 4-year contract. Gulf have been good, stuck by the original deal for 2 years, and their bills are easy to access and understand. Octopus have also been good so far, and I would have put more meters with them if Opus hadn't relented and pulled back on their increase. They offered 24.75 SC and 13.53 unit rate for 1 year.

Put their prices up ? How does that work? A contracts a contract ,surely??

The secret's buried in the contract terms. When you sign up to the deal, the small print tells you that if the company's costs increase, they can increase their charges. So the 'fixed price' that you're on is actually an illusion. Waste of time, really.
The industry gives this an important-sounding name: 'pass-through' costs. So if your supplier has a supplier and that supplier raises his prices, your supplier 'passes through' that cost to you. It's doublespeak for 'we'll jack up our charges whenever we feel like it'.
That said, Opus is the only company that's done it to me within the period of a contract. And they dropped it when I kicked up.
