I thought there was a thread running with current electric prices, has it been removed or hasn't there ever been one?
Have been called by brokers offering best prices, are farmers looking around or just renewing? If switching are brokers a good way of getting best rates?

Brokers weren't competitive for me, ended up with edf at 25p standing charge and 11.69 unit +7% DD discount on approx 13,000 units pa 2 year fix.

Broker has come in best at present. EDF and British Gas slightly cheaper but more on day standing charge. Where he score is quoting for 2 low usage meters with no standing charge and only slightly more on unit rate.

I have an 06 max demand meter at the mo and use a proxy 30000 kw. Apparently I have to migrate to a HH meter- incurring extra charges for meter reading and data collection. Anybody else have this trouble?

@ffarmwr i am in an almost identical position to you :(

We had an electric upgrade done back in 2012 and unbeknown to us Northern Powergrid fitted a profile class 6 max demand meter. Never had any issues up until this last renewal, when because of the p272 legislation we now face moving to Half hourly metering with all its extra costs.

Like you we only use approx 35,000 units per annum, but keep getting transferred into the industrial and commercial departments of energy companies, many firms won't even give me a quote. They all say that ofgem have banned them from downgrading meters to a lower profile class :banghead:

I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of it all, did you manage to make any headway on this?

Still no better really, got the unions on board. I was the first to mention it and they had no idea what I was speaking about! They passed my info to their brokers and I got exactly the same story from them.

What if I was too sell up shop and stop farming. I would then be using a fraction of what I'm using at moment. Surely I would be downgraded then?

Currently fixed a 2 year deal with haven at 14 night and 10 day. This is fixed so I can hide for a bit and hope that something happens in the meantime for low 06 users

What units are you paying at the moment?

The half hourly metering job is being rolled out across the country. The threshold is being lowered a lot so a lot more of us will suddenly be on it. It took me 3 years to get off it, now I'm going to be back on it again, albeit with lower costs than they used to be.

Renewal prices for me are looking like 13p day rate, 7.5 night rate and 47p/d standing charge.

Spoke to the Farm Energy Centre who have a helpline for NFU members. The lady was very helpful and basically said that there is no way of downgrading to a lower profile class at the moment, and that most people will be moved over into HH metering in the the next few years anyway.

Only once they have a year's worth of usage data will they consider downgrading you.

So think I'll just renew for 12 mi this and see what happens in that time, I will be approx £600 p.a. worse off than my current contract

That's a very high standing charge, 25-35p is what I have been quoted

Do you know what the new threshold is? We're on 100A supply which was the old threshold above which it was HH

I know it's all part of the DECC grand plan
