Electronic Grain Passports

Was anyone involved in the AHDB e-Passport pilot scheme?

Looking through the pdf user guide, the whole system looks horrifically complicated, especially when loading 85,000mt from 80+ loading locations, using 50+ different vehicles.

Is it practical for a grower loading 500mt a day from a pad in the middle of nowhere to generate e-passports as he goes along?

The benefits of going paperless are clear, however other E-Systems such as RPA applications and cattle movements haven't always run smoothly. The volume of data generated by computerising grain passports would be enormous.

Anything that means I don't have to shout at RT every year for my stickers is a good idea. They took my sub money from my account weeks ago, having passed my annual inspection in March. The old stickers ran out yesterday & no new ones have been sent. Good thing I'm not loading lorries for a day or two, eh?

Any chance that farm or central store weighbridge weights could be added for further fraud protection?
What about lorry drivers, especially subbies, who don't get any infor before turning up? Many don't have smartphones & there's no mobile signal within 4 miles of the farm unless they are on Vodafone.

I hope this gets well tested before national roll out.

There are some really key issues in this.

Real two way flow of data (especially from flour mill to grower) needs to be enshrined for growers not just for trade advantage.

Who is going to pay for it all. Biggest benefit is to trade but surprise surprise they will want farmers to pay possibly even through the levy.

Who owns all the data and how it is used.

Some REALLY big decisions here, will be waiting for @gone up the hill to go off on one when it gets to that stage .......... it'll all be the fault of Peter Kendall :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

many a true word spoken in jest:(....there are wider concerns about the trade and assurance schemes collecting information about ourselves IMO...for example the register of sprayer operators?....who has access to it and for what purpose?....they all preach to us about modern standards but when it comes to their own transparency they don't want to know

you are not alone in your 'sticker frustration' @Brisel ....been quite widespread this year i hear...if the 'e passports' are anything like 'arams' for sheep.?? then you'd be better sticking to paper

I renewed my farm assurance weeks ago, called up as need the stickers and got the reply oh they were sent two weeks ago, haven't you got them? err no was the reply, um um we will have to call you back, got a voicemail later on my phone saying that they had a system error ( whatever that means ) and they hadn't been sent out but will be asap.. you couldn't make it up!!

Ref electronic passports for grain, mobile phone signal around here is getting worse by the day,so if they are going to rely on mobiles to make it work they need to think again, personally I would rather it stays as paper as at least that way you have a record to show everyone along the chain..

I just hope they don't mess it up like Animal Health have done with their new phone system the last two days as it has been impossible to get thru to the TB vets/ licensing at Truro, complete shambles comes to mind!!

Couldn't agree more about the animal health phones, I wonder how much it has cost to put a worse system in. As for electronic passport where there is little phone signal let alone 3g. Don't get me started.

Iv been trying to get thru for two days and they have no idea when they will have it running correctly!! getting licenses is time critical, you cant wait when you only have a short window to move animals..

You have just reminded me, my stickers haven't arrived.

End of December mine.
They had a perfectly workable system when the stickers lasted for that years harvest, the some total twunts in the bunch of parasites decided that it will run from your date of registration, what a backwards step.
told them to cancel mine and I would apply in August so my tickets would last the full harvest selling time, SPUN a load of twaddle about may be hard to get back on scheme as will have to do a big thorough indepth inspections ect. So chickened out and carried on. ( as the knew most people will):sneaky::mad:
