Electronic lamb weighed with 3 way drafter

Similar design to the Prattley, but improved IMO. EID antenna is built into the crate, rather than bolted on after.

I have one of these and love it. Had an IAE before and hate it. It's noisy, they struggle like hell in and and the needle doesn't stop bouncing. The FarmIT one is practically silent, they run through it easily and it's easy to use and draft. I would definitely recommend. The customer service and aftercare is also top notch.

1200 odd quid seems a lot of money for a ally tray and 2 steel/ply side's / gates..... homemade doesn't look as good of course and may need tweaks with farmers friend during 'development'....
and depends on diy aptitude of course ....

Have just bought a Ritchie combi clamp with weighing an eid panel reader etc. Only thing we didn't go for at the minute was the auto drafting as with the clamp it's easy enough drafting manually but can be added later as everything is there. Not saying we won't do it but thought we'd see how it goes first.
If you're feeling flash go for the tepari if you can get shearwell to come up with a demo

Thanks for all the info will now do a wee bit phoning around,
jim75 that sounds a fair bit of kit you have problem is I'm just a poor Morayshire crofter , though I have a combi clamp did think about adding the weighing kit but sheep are at different locations and thought it's a fair thing to shift about

I was waiting on an 'efficiency' grant scheme to get one of the drafters I posted above. However, I figured it was far cheaper to stick weigh bars under my existing CombiClamp instead, and use my old electronic lamb weigher elsewhere if needed. Converting the CombiClamp has cost far less than the 60% I'd have to fund on a new crate, but depends on how your farm is set up. Most of my slaughter lambs go through the shed where the Clamp is standing anyway.

You sound like a friend of mine saying he's a poor Crofter  You could get the atv kit for shifting the clamp around as long as you're not overloading it doing hundreds of miles and take it steady saves the 3k or whatever it is for the proper trailer. The weigh bars aren't that heavy that go under the clamp, certainly able to go in the back of the truck.
Haven't used the panel reader yet due to the software not being loaded but will be using it at the 2nd hep p vaccination.

Not sure if im creative but i like to make the most of what i've got.

Just converted one of my old weigh crates to electronic weigh head and extremely HD load bars, 2 way (manual :)) draft - for 500 quid.

Happy days.

Just to pee you off, I'm sure I saw @Allied Weighing was selling a conversion kit (suspension cell, so no bars in the muck) for £250.;) Could tie an old shedding gate on the front with baler twine (as I did until recently) to make it a 2 way drafter. If you could get hold of an extra shedding gate off eBay and some more twine, could you call it a 3 way drafter?......

For the cost of a drafting crate, you could probably buy a cheap flat bed trailer (if you didn't fancy making one) to mount your existing CombiClamp on, and convert it to a weighing unit.

@Speysider we could probably let our Bateman go if you were interested? It's a galvanised spring type but we've put a TruTest suspension cell in it. I lined it with stockboard and cut a hole to fit a TruTest panel reader perfectly but you wouldn't need to use it with one if you didn't want to. I can probably find the bit I cut out if need be. I can get some snaps if you're interested.

Very interesting to hear all the possible solutions also getting respect for being a poor crofter :rolleyes: . Was thinking the solution is to site my combi clamp onto an old ifor Williams flatbed that I have and make a 3 way shedding gate off the clamp ,for the weighing will look at the Ritchie set up and self engineer a cheaper alternative. Have until June before the first lambs are ready , in reality will probably end up using the 20yr old Ritchie crate for another 20 years !!
