Embarassing crop of spring barley? FW p 46

I hate shipping malting barley to East Anglia. Around here export via Poole, Southampton or Portbury are the main options. I don't often get much trouble unless it is way off spec. The sampler at the port doesn't know or care how well it has been bought. They just test it and tip it.

anyone growing spring barley this year has already fallen at the first hurdle IMO

AHDB data shows planting expected to be up 20 ish % - barley is going to be worthless next harvest, you will need 4t to make a margin !

Mine is forward sold at £143/t, makes a profit at 3.5-4t/ha and brilliant grass weed control

If you are able to hit near 10t/ha in spring barley I would advise you not to bother growing anything else because the costs of growing it are nearly laughable compared to a winter crop.

I dont think others have seen what I did 10.7Lts/ha 3.9Ha/H 7.2tons/Ha. Is this the sort of figures that I should be getting out of "My" Scythe?

Good move, I think spot next year it will be big discounts to wheat assuming all the acres going in yield

4t of spring crop seems rather optimistic average to me ! As you say why EVER grow winter wheat if you can do that ?

impossible to yield that on av with current malting marley varieties and most likely with feed varieties too

Sadly ID plate worn off so no idea of a serial number either. Brian next door dose his with a JD 2256.

The point surely is, Clive, that all the 4t growers are sorely needed to bring the average up to 2.2.
