Embarassing crop of spring barley? FW p 46

I hate shipping malting barley to East Anglia. Around here export via Poole, Southampton or Portbury are the main options. I don't often get much trouble unless it is way off spec. The sampler at the port doesn't know or care how well it has been bought. They just test it and tip it.

If you are able to hit near 10t/ha in spring barley I would advise you not to bother growing anything else because the costs of growing it are nearly laughable compared to a winter crop.

4t of spring crop seems rather optimistic average to me ! As you say why EVER grow winter wheat if you can do that ?
