taxing rich people more is the very definition of stupidity

tax them less, there will be more of them to pay tax

this makes morse sense financially but politically it’s hard to get people to accept

the only way out of this hole is BIG tax cuts so Amazon, apple, google, facebook, all the words banks and every billionaire in the world etc all flock to the uk, pay tax here, employ people here who all pay tax and consume here

that’s how you build a strong economy imo

Agreed. Boosting the economy is a far better method long term than raising taxes which will no doubt limit consumer spending.

There will be Carbon taxes which will effect fuel prices. A great opportunity to tax fuel higher as it is at such a low price and many garages are making big profits on fuel. Our local supermarket (private) is only 99.9 p for petrol and 104.5 for diesel.

I also would never be surprised to see VAT being put on some food and drink at 5%. France has this.
There also could be a tax on delivery services such as Amazon to damp down the number of white vans, although this may be done through carbon taxes.

one of the reasons the government covid help has been so generous and relatively unquestioning is just a way to pump cash into the economy

they last thing they are going to do in this budget is slow anything down - the will simulate not suffocate the economy imo

this could be the biggest budget for generations if they are brave enough !

All been tried. Tax cuts for the rich, fudge em. Go after the big corporations and trusts and dodgers. Anyone earning over 50K, have at em.

Amazon, Google, Faceache already do business here along with tonnes of Russian and Asian or Arabic rich listers. Trickle down doesn't work.

The one thing the government does need to do is stop employing people itself.

Get on with the infrastructure projects and defence spending. Get on with the offshore wind farms. Road building, cripes there is no real London to South West route, just motorway the A303 the whole bloody way.

I agree that it's certain they're looking at current fuel prices and thinking it's a tap in. Of all the things they could come up with this looks like a no brainer. They can coat it with a load of sh1t about how the environment has benefitted from lockdown and that this measure will continue that work.

when was it tried last ?

i don’t think all these companies are in Ireland for the wonderful weather !

i’ve never been to a poor tax haven !

no point avoiding tax when it’s low, but when it’s high as you say it’s easy for he extreme wealth and big corps to avoid it .. they just move to cheap countries and tax havens ...... if you can’t beat them, join them !

the REALLY big business moves very easy these days - they live in clouds not factories

Great, they can start the environmental kick offs with a tax on air travel.

All been tried Clive, what you call for will personally benefit you whilst ever widening the deficit. That seems to be your answer to everything, tax cuts. You know as well as I do public spending has been curtailed in many areas, I'm all for tax so long as it is spent wisely, not pished up the wall.

it wouldn’t really benefit me much vs the the kind of companies and individuals that really matter and you want paying tax in this county

it benefits everyone when more tax is taken overall and more jobs are created

raising tax does the absolute opposite and puts the brakes on the economy big time

Carbon taxes on fertilisers and fuel. Farmers could seriously benefit from this if we start farming differently
