the price gain don't look far off, if you were doing nothing but grazing the fert could be cut down.

Why is grass poor ?

Derrick

It is heavy clay land on slopes, the north facing sides are cold and wettish but will grow grass from May to October, the south facing grows from April most years but has a tendency to burn off in a dry summer.
It has been limed and is typical wealden grassland that gets wet in winter and rock hard in summer.

It could be "improved" with better grasses but I doubt they would be persistent enough or cost effective over the long term with small fields, hedges and in field trees.

Cattle dealers have always done well, do not feel pressured to buy & be prepared to spend a lot of time at the market staying to the very end, there is alway a pen that makes less than it should if you have the patience, that is the ones you will make money on, be prepared to buy & sell through out the season
To be fair i prefer selling , I’m a cow man not a finisher or anything , cows are my thing.
