End of the Road for Small Livestock Farms?

Actually they are adding new renewable tech faster than most, it’s just population demands and old polices they had that is messing them up with all these coal fired power stations, I personally think they will play ball, because we can tax them one way or another if they don’t.
The other reason I belive they will is because they are taking climate change seriously at least they seem to be making great efforts in that direction planting Forrest’s etc.
That in its self is good news .

That's where the flexibility goes?

Works alright if you get plenty of bulk grass growth, but the weather can work for or against every bob spent on extras.

I think the summer dry patterns worldwide are having some interesting effects on beef operations, a "serious amount of acetylene" in alot of cases.

Sadly it's not the cows that should be going, but all the sh!t the cows were expected to pay for when the going was good!
That's the noose, and to keep the metaphor going our herds are what keep from dangling

Our cows are just a hobby but I couldn't be without them
Not many cattle fattend on grass in the U.K. now man , shed and concentrates, some of the breeds won’t fatten on grass and some to flighty to be out anyway, can’t get them in to handle etc is the truth of the matter .

Yes your probably right , the next fashion is share farming always makes me laugh 😆 share what exactly not be money so must be the work ..... 😂
Share farming? 😂

It's a good NZ concept that has been barstewardized by UK land agents. In it's British format it allows landowners to obtain large rents for land, while still keeping their active farmer status, with all the associated subsidy and tax benefits.

The peasant puts in the capital, takes the financial risk, does all the work and at the end of the year, the Lord takes a proportion of his profit.

Fück me. I've just read back a few of my recent posts. Seriously concerned I'm turning into @glasshouse.

But they pay the tax and still pollute , so no gain ?
I cannot disagree. This is down to the low cost of carbon foot print calculations.
When carbon tax is set very low it’s like a £1 speeding ticket. Not a disincentive to speed, now what if carbon tax was like the new speeding ticket system based on income of the person speeding? Higher the income they have, the higher the cost of the speeding ticket.
if you didn’t know to quote the uk system.

You will be issued with a fixed penalty notice (speeding ticket), which constitutes three penalty points on your licence and a fine between 25% and 75% of your weekly income. If there are other factors, such as driving near a school or driving a heavy-goods vehicle, you may need to appear in court and face a larger speeding fine.

Starting from a low base ...................

They've their own challenges internally too like the NE desertification and expanding of the Gobi. They're digging massive water canals to get water back to Beijing. Grandad always said there'd be wars over water and I think he's right

You're not

DEFRA wonk on Marr last week banging on about retirement strategies and getting younger forward thinkers in pro environment l-la. No what the UK studiously did for generations now was not address land tenure legislation and tax regimes that mean a farming ladder of opportunity like in NZ can't happen here. Think how many young families have been thwarted and how many older folks could have helped. It's all just big contractors and contract farming

Assuming they're investing something's of course. NZ share milking, the landowner is responsible for the parlour, infrastructure repairs and capital fertiliser.

The share farming opportunities I've explored in the UK were no where near as balanced.
A lot of land has a cost price of around 10K/acre, is the share farmer going to match that investment ?

Crikey! If you think cattle can be hard to get in you should try deer farming, they are normally dead easy to get in. I would say I can get any group on the farm into the handling system within 30 mins max. Currently 7 different groups 14 paddocks 100 acres.

Different times we live in now , I just don’t get why food should be cheap , make em pay a proper price which will have lots of benefits .
I think we will transition to food costing a proper price, however there will be lots of pain for consumers who are used to food costing nothing as they want to spend their money on iphones etc

I can get my cattle in anytime I want , some can not ! Would you like 1000 3/4 limmys in fields ? I’d worry I’d never see them again 😂
