Isuzu pickup and skoda yeti occasionally put check engine light on. Haven't figured out the yeti cause but pickup likes a few seconds to collect its thoughts after starting before i set off. Usually goes out after they've been stopped and started a few times. A failing battery might cause it to come on, might be worth charging overnight with a smart charger. But wasting half your day going to the dealers computer would give piece of mind..

Smart charger won't charge if battery voltage too low, unless you get a more expensive one that is supposed to revive a dead battery, as stated i would suggest replacing the battery with a good make new one, one thing you could cross off list if it's still the same.

Can you find someone with a code reader? The charging light became intermittent on my now 5 year old Navara. Voltage was rising and dropping on the battery with a multimeter connected. Happened to be watching the meter and had one hand resting on the plastic engine cover and had no charge. Lifted hand of engine...charge.Hand on again and no charge. Discovered a corroded earth wire connector on an alternator bracket below the engine cover to be the culprit. Two days later the engine man' light came on. Got neighbour to plug in his reader(it's a good one with its own tablet and web connection). The screen just filled with error codes. He cleared them all with the touch of a button and have had no problems since. I'd guess it all stemmed from the alternator bad earth.

Well worth having a basic one of these in your tool arsenal ....

Any $10 ebay OBDII reader jobbie will read and clear the code. Or just stop in at pretty much any workshop at 4:55pm on a Friday with a box of beers under your arm?

What's the problem with your battery? Two years old should still be under warranty I'd have thought.

Low battery voltage will be enough to trigger "low voltage" fault codes that will put the engine light on, sort the battery (and check it's charging with a volt meter) the engine light will probably go off after a certain number of starts, if the fault doesn't recur, (although the faults will still be logged)

Battery on my XC 70 started to get weak months ago and warning note appeared on dash again 3 weeks ago. Put new battery in and all back to normal. Even annoying stop/start cuts in now where before it would take at least and hour of driving to get enough battery reserve to work

Checked battery this morning 11.4 volts, so looks like battery is sha%%ed. Pickup has done 4600 miles and just had its first sevice at 2 years old. looks like a day at the dealers.

I thought one of the main reasons to buy new was warranty so unfortunately unless you want to void it (or potentially create a load of torment if you really need it later) you've only one option.

So they've just serviced it but didn't test the battery? Dealer technicians never fail to amaze me.

WOW, speedy repair by Nissan. They can fit my pickup in on 31st december to take a look at it  and fit new battery IF neccesary ( supposed to have one in stock) 11.4 volts this morning, meanwhile just keep ringing free rac breakdown till then. WHAT a bloody shambles.
In my day in the 70`s, breakdowns had to be done there and then, could not tell police operater that it would be 2 weeks before I could come out to mend a wagon / car / prison bus ect on the side of the A1 motorway. I despair,What a bloody disgrace this world is becoming.
