Enlarged prostate?

Actually got to see a doctor face to face yesterday and was examined and prescribed Contiflo XL 400 micrograms to assist with bladder frequency and control. Anyone else in here used Contiflo and how did they work for you?

Doc said my prostate was enlarged but not unduly so but it did feel hard! Having lost one older brother to testicular cancer and an other being treated for prostrate cancer I have been scheduled for blood tests and an ultrasound testicular scan; jeez I hope it doesn't tickle.

Already taking Amlodipine and Ramipril for blood pressure and the doc advised that Contiflo also effects blood pressure and I will have to keep an eye on it.

I hate this getting old,
but mind you I dislike the alternative even more!
Just gone on it today

I don't know what the time scale is for improvement, or how much improvement we can expect from taking the drug. Early days yet and only a very slight improvement for me.

I'm presently waiting for my blood test results and the results of the testicular scan and my GP wants to talk to me (on the phone) this coming Wednesday about both results; hopefully not bad news, I'm scheduled to have eye surgery on Thursday morning!

I am far from impressed about the way GP's are conducting things lately but in this case it is probably better over the phone than bent over their desk with their finger up your arse tbh.
I asked to see a specialist consultant, doctor was doing nothing bar offering me antibiotics , 16 month wait so Ive gone private , Im now having a flow test in 2 weeks

It's defo helping me , noticed an improvement next day

Only the slightest of improvement for me but am presently awaiting a call from my GP this afternoon and she will, hopefully, discuss the results of my blood test and testicular scan; as well as negotiate any medication changes.

The guy who did the testicular scan said that he couldn't see any cancer but a number of cysts were present but didn't go into any details.

Just at the moment I'm more concerned with eye surgery tomorrow, for the removal of a cataract from my left eye and the fitting of a stent for easing glaucoma; second eye to be done at a later date.

It's all go for some, isn't it?

PS ... When you say that you are having some improvement; how so? Retaining more volume, less urgency, better control when you do have to go???

Has any looked into this or had it done

ablation is a new treatment for prostate enlargement. There are 2 types of water ablation procedure. In the first, water is injected into the prostate using a probe passed up the urethra. The pressure of the water is then used to destroy some of the prostate tissue, making it smaller.

Im starting to think I may need some form of surgery in the near future , pills seem a waste of time although I'm going to try some herbal pills next

Anyone had any of these procedures in the link , recovery time is my main concern

How acute is your bladder problem and what pills have you tried? I would suggest a consultation with your GP before taking herbal medications; it may clash with anything presently on your prescription, or even make matters worse.

I've stopped the pills , I don't believe in taking tablets that show no benefit
Been on going for 20 years , they are not even sure if a medical procedure would help , last time I spoke to the doctor he was baffled apart from offering me long term anitbiotics which I don't want to do either

What pills did you stop taking and what were they supposed to do and did you consult your doctor before stopping them?

You should know there are no guarantees in surgery. That's why they get you to sign a release. The doctor's/surgeon's opinion is always that, an opinion.
Mine is not an enlarged prostate as such , surgery for an enlarged prostate is most times successful

Chronic prostatitis

Chronic prostatitis can be challenging to treat because little is known about what causes it.
