Enlarged prostate?

I really noticed that my peeing flow had slowed down about 3 years ago I guess. Been to the GP, had the blood tests etc done, don't detect cancer, have had the finger up the bum, ( lot less spectacular than Billy Connolly's experience 😯,) enlarged prostate, my late father had the same problem, first on medication, then had the laser op. I'm now on tamsulosin tablets,400mg once a day. but not finding them that effective. My question is ? Is there much one can do to help, by diet, etc. I've read to avoid caffeine, and drink plenty of fluid. Doctor told me loosing some weight would help. I'm 56 and the middle age thing of tummy fat has cought up . As enlarged prostate is supposed to be common... Any advice would be greatly appreciated . thanks

The last time I went to do a largish food shop, was two weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon. A road was closed and by the time I got to the shop it was getting close to closing...and forgot my decaf tea and coffee.. so have been on old stock normal yea and coffee, and am not so good.. nowhere as bad as originally.. but makes me wonder is it caused or irritated by caffeine? Still on my pomegranate juice and pumpkin seed capsules and zink.
Getting a delivery of decaf tea and coffee tomorrow , Amazon prime

Mild?? I can sink 5 pints of beer without going to toilet but one mug of coffee and the first mouthful wants out as the last one goes in. Large quantities of tea are the similar but not so quick.

I find that I even had to start avoiding decaffeinated coffee but perhaps the chemical process they use for removing the caffeine may leave behind a lesser bladder irritant than caffeine.

Also, it's not just the bladder frequency but keeping the bladder under control when the call of nature prompts one to visit the loo; any delay could be disastrous,

Don't stop me now! Can't stop, got to go! Jeez, just made it! I have heard of pit stops but this is getting ridiculous! ;)

Managed to get a GP telephone consultation for this afternoon but I'm not too sure how he/she will be able to check my prostrate over the phone but it could be interesting. :D

I'm exactly the same, come to think of it...two pints of Guinness with a meal in the village pub. Fine...mug of normal coffee.. and I need a tinkle before I finish .

Actually got to see a doctor face to face yesterday and was examined and prescribed Contiflo XL 400 micrograms to assist with bladder frequency and control. Anyone else in here used Contiflo and how did they work for you?

Doc said my prostate was enlarged but not unduly so but it did feel hard! Having lost one older brother to testicular cancer and an other being treated for prostrate cancer I have been scheduled for blood tests and an ultrasound testicular scan; jeez I hope it doesn't tickle.

Already taking Amlodipine and Ramipril for blood pressure and the doc advised that Contiflo also effects blood pressure and I will have to keep an eye on it.

I hate this getting old,
but mind you I dislike the alternative even more!

Should be painless, though I can't say the same for a biopsy.

I just realised that to say I had a face to face appointment wasn't quite correct, was it?

Are you talking testicular biopsy, or bladder biopsy?
Prostate biopsy. I don't think laser surgery of the prostate collects a sample for biopsy as it effectively evaporates the tissue. Unless things have changed. I had one done under general anaesthetic and one without. I didn't enjoy the second.

Is it just night time or during the day

Is it just night time or during the day
Mostly during the day but can be limited to one or two toilet visits during the night; depending on how late I retire and how much liquid I have consumed during the latter part of the day.

But despite the above, when I have to go 'I have to go', lest I leave my self in danger of peeing my pants. On most toilet visits I pass only 100 to 200 ml of urine.

I have only been taking the Contiflo XL 400 mg capsules for six days now and they 'may' be starting to have some effect on the bladder control. First wee this morning at 08.00 was 400ml and the second at 10.00 was an other 400 but then back down to 200ml at 11.00 hrs. ( All three toilet visits were urgent. )

Waiting on the results of blood tests and have a hospital appointment lined up for Sunday afternoon for an ultrasound testicular scan. Not sure how all this is going to pan out but I lost one older brother with testicular cancer and and an other older brother has been getting treatment for prostate cancer for a number of years now. :(

For now I will, hopefully, just avoid the sound of any running water!
