Ergot in Spring wheat

See Ergot tolerances have been tightened up this harvest does this mean if you can see it on lump of wheat it will need dressing out or is there some guidance say 1 ergot kernel per kg of wheat is too much ?
If it has to be gravity separated to remove how much per tonne can you expect to pay ? If have a milling spec would help pay for the treatment to get it out hopefully .....?
Variety KWS Conchise cut yesterday be about 110 tonne with odd one dotted about on wheat lump .

Can only get it out with colour sorter. We use evans and pearce. Works out about £15/t
Not sure on current tolerance levels is it 0.002% so if you can see it dotted about on your pile of wheat you have to have colour sorted . ?

If you can see it on the heap it’s too much for milling spec. Colour sorter is only option or Chuck it on the feed heap and forget milling.
Gravity separator won’t get it out well enough. Believe me, I’ve tried all sorts. We seem to have a fair bit this year. Picking it out as it pours onto the heap out the spout is the poor mans option. Used to be a pastime for all the family here stood round the spout with margarine tubs. Happy days.

Oh well will get it sampled for quality ...for bread making .....dont suppose they like it much in feed wheat either will have to get it out anyway ...?

I’ve just finished harvesting my spring wheat. Plenty of ergot in it so will need to go through a colour sorter.
I’m pig sick of trying to grow wheat on light land TBH. If it’s not low bushel weight, it’s fusarium or ergot. No more wheat will be grown here. 2018 was the last year we had a decent sample. It’s been rubbish ever since.

What have you got left to grow 🤔

It annoys me greatly that customers force more and more of their part of the job back onto us the suppliers. Wheat has to delivered perfect to tighter and tighter specs so we end up doing more of the cleaning work. Surprised they haven’t asked us to grind it yet.
And for all the supposed cleverness of plant breeders, AHDB etc nobody can seem to do anything about ergot, yet we have to shoulder the problem in its entirety as usual. Well I’m out of that caper.

Who knows if they’re growing beet, haven’t even had an offer yet?

All barley it is!

Sugar Beet mmmm. Take a look at this - one bulk carrier heading on the Port of Santo, Brazil to load with 108,000 tonnes of sugar bound for China. So that is one boat equivalent to 10% of the UK production. Puts the job into perspective. Oh and two more bulk carriers are moored for loading. The second video is a smaller vessel 99,000 tonnes leaving Santos a couple of weeks ago.

There’s a thread about this just recently. I got my maths wrong 😳. Milling zero tolerance and feed low level.
