Escaped bull

So for the past 10 years I have had my bull out with the cows on the same land I always bull the the cows on. No problems with the neighbours cows as they billed their cows away from ours. The neighbouring land has recently been sold because the previous owners passed away. The new owners have decided to put their young cows that they didn't want with a bull in the field next to where our bull was out with our cows.
Our bull broke through the fence and bullet the neighbours cow. They have now sent me a bill for scanning, injecting and their labour.
I agree to pay for the scanning and injection but not the labour. Am I in the wrong?
Who has the right to have the cows their if my bull was their first. I know I wouldn't put my young cows in a field next to where a bull was out

I'm afraid you are responsible for fencing your stock in. May be worth thinking about how you do that. I have extracted a bull whose testicles got caught by a barbed wire fence once.

Yes it is a bit daft of him to put the cows in that field but it is up to him. It would perhaps have been worth him telling you.

your fault, but, as said, a quick chat, could probably solved the issue, we only have 1 neighbour with cattle, we always speak, if his either going up the road, passing ours, or next door, if we have a bull with ours, i'd niggle at the fence though, definition of stock proof, for both of you. Might be worth thinking about future relations, they may be the sort, to claim for everything, and not over helpful. We had cattle, on keep, that took a walk, the next door farmed claimed £25, off our insurance, for damage done to straw in swathe, not paid !!!!

This is really annoying he put his cows there a couple of days after we put the bull out after we had told him we were doing. We moved the bull away then a couple of day later he moved his cows. We put the bull back so a few days later he put his cows back
Theres no reasoning with them I think they are just being awkward.
They want more in labour costs than the do scanning and injecting.

sounds like he is going to be an a#hole neighbour, mains electric fencer, and ht permanent wire, on boundary, or, the ideal answer, his get in with yours. Life is to short to pee about with a#holes like that, my old man used to say 'fall out with them nicely, in the beginning, or nastily at the end'. Wise words, they might need a hand, with a problem one day, or even you, if it's daggers drawn...that's no good at all. Just stay civil, just, and hope your day will come around.

I'd be telling them to _ _ _ _ off if that's what happened

Regardless of what the law says, it's a stupid, useless, idiotic half-witted neighbour who puts cows or heifers in a field next to an established neighbour who already has a bull in the adjoining field.

If it went to court, and I was the JP, I would make him do ''picking up dogshit'' community service for being an imbecile.

Couldn’t agree more.
Just backed up all those traits by sending in a big bill.
A these things happen approach in the first instance would have been a far smarter approach as a new neighbour to someone you are going to have rub along with for the foreseeable.

Fortunately what goes around comes around for folk like that though.

Things like these do happen when the new neighbour follows the existing neighbour's bull round with his cows.
@Farm2020 Is this land ajoining your holding or some away land is new neighbour wanting to expand, be a pain in arse and persuade you to sell for a quiet life

These things happen, I've never made a fuss when neighbours stock have got in knowing full well it could be mine out next week. A neighbour now deceased once made a thing about my bull being in a field next to his heifers which broke into mine. He stopped when I said I wanted a service charge and royalty payment for every calf left behind.

I'm with the others: This lot sound like a bunch of t1ts. You were there first and have a seasonal grazing plan for your cattle, being new neighbours the courteous thing would have been to have a chat and find out what you're up to.

I have a neighbouring farmer on some grass keep with their cattle next to some young heifers of mine, their bull broke in and served a couple that we know of, im going to scan the whole bunch (40 odd) and inject any that are in calf but I won’t be sending the neighbours a bill because knowing my luck it’ll be my bull breaking into there’s next!!
