Estrumate for sheep

Estrumate would make them reabsorb, but IIRC it has to be done within a certain window. Not sure when that window is, as I’ve only done it twice, on individual sheep. Check with your vet as to those dates, as you’ll have to liase with him re supply/jabbing anyway, since it’s prescription’s been tightened up.

IIRC the dose was 0.5 or 1ml per sheep.:scratchhead:

Half the cow dose, only effective up to about 50 days. Not always effective in early pregnancy. VITAL that treated animals are either observed in heat, put in with a raddled teaser or scanned to ensure the drug has worked.

It's a drug often not handed out due to risks to human health (abortion and fatal asthma attacks).

I've done this ---- to make sure the ewes aborted we waited until 14 days after possible impregnation then used 2cc Cyclix
I then put rams out with them and 80% of the ewes were tupped within 8 days (the other 20% over the next 10 days

So you can conclude that the Cyclix worked well at aborting the foetus at this stage of pregnancy

Gathered ewes off the hill last Sunday only to find a neighbour's rogue tup lamb running with them, anyway, got about 30 ewes amongst them that I'd rather were tupped with the moderately expensive tup I'd bought specifically for them.

So, picked up estrumate at the vets this evening was hoping to have a chat with him but he'd already gone when I got there.

Anyway, my main question is since the 30 odd ewes are going to be single sire mated with the tup, will I need to stagger the injections over a few days to make sure they're not all in season on the same day?

Any help greatly appreciated as I'm gonna sort them tomorrow and ideally would have been releasing the tups as well but I'm not sure now what to do.

Whenever i’ve Injected sheep with Estrumate, they have always come on together, at 3-5 days after injection. So yes, probably safer to stagger the jabs i’d Have thought.
