ETA boiler servicing Derbyshire

can anyone recommend a company to do an annual service on an ETA 70kw woodchip biomass boiler. Company who installed it went bust. Local ETA agent don't seem interested in doing it. Fed up of contacting them and getting no where. Even pointed out that they hadn't invoiced me for last years service and still no action! Another local farmer in same position as me who had an ETA installed at same time as myself.
Rang main ETA distributor for U.K. Yesterday who were going to email me a list of approved agents but nothing from them either.

Apparently a chap called Mark Burrows Services them. Been doing a lot of servicing around N Staffs
He the one who did mine last year. Nice chap and seems knowledgeable but no good if he won't turn up. Even collared him when he was doing a job in our village and got stuck behind my cows coming in for milking.

I do my local farmers @ £250.
The farmers round here were being fleeced £750 by eta approved companies.
Don’t pay more than £250 and if you get it cheaper, bonus.
You only need a new seal and a good scrub, order your seal from plumbcenter ref:
001-0180-00-E
Contact eta UK make sure the seal is good for your boiler. Can take a couple week delivery depending on how dumb the assistant is at plumbcenter.

Yes you are correct!
ETA main agent has got back to me with a price of £650 + vat to do the following.

  • Check boiler pressure _________ bar
  • Empty the ash box
  • Clean flue tube
  • Clean combustion chamber
  • Clean the lambda probe
  • Visually check safety valves
  • Cleaning the draught fan and fan housing
  • Clean flue gas temperature sensor
  • Checking the freedom of movement of the Firebed switch
  • Check heat exchanger tubes
  • Inspect seals on heat exchanger cover
  • Clean fill level sensor and strainer
  • Lubricating the drive chains
  • Check ash box position switch
  • Checking the measuring orifice and hoses of the differential pressure transmitter
  • Calibrate lambda probe
  • Perform emission measurement
  • Reset maintenance counter
I also had to sweep the flue before hand and turn the boiler off 48 hrs before they came.

Will be contacting some of the above suggestions

As I said get your own seal only thing that should be changed annually.

They pay £90 for attending eta 1 day information course then bung £500 on each service robbery. I told eta to stick it and service them.

Use this website and get a local biomass qualified service team

ESP Energy installed ours and have used for servicing.
H2O renewables also did some work adding another system onto it.

Both good companies, H2O only based over the hill in glossop.

doing the annual service is not hard but it is when it goes wrong that factory support is often required and the factory will not talk to you if you have not attended any training.

Hi Rusty

Did you find anyone in the end to service your ETA boiler?

If not, I am currently servicing ETA boilers across Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Cheshire so you are well within my patch.

Reply/message me back if you still need help.

Hi
Ecosmart did finally come and service the boiler. However it apparently needs a new grate so we will see how long it takes them to come and fit it!

Unusual on eta needing a grate. Has it done a lot if hours. Have you looked at the grate your self.

I would agree with f0ster that it is unusual for an ETA or any decent biomass boiler for that matter to require a new grate unless something serious has occurred (I assume its the tilting burn grate within the combustion chamber which the pellets are fed on to for ignition). I have swapped a few tilting grate motors before which are fitted on the front end of the boiler near to the air valves. The motor basically turns the mechanism which turns the spindle which the grate is connected to inside the combustion chamber to allow it to turn through 90 degrees and dump off the remnants of the last burn cycle. Perhaps its the new motor which is required? Did Ecosmart make you aware of anything else relating to this issue?

As I mentioned before though Rusty, if Ecosmart fail to respond to you quickly enough, or at all, I can!

Reply back to me if you wish and I can help out.
