Neighbour rang today about a runaway he had on the above roughcut rideon mower, that I believe is rated as a brushcutter. It has Briggs Vanguard 14hp Twin & hydrostatic transmission. He said having done a lot of cutting & stopped, when he restarted, the machine immmediately ran away & he had to steer into a wall rather than his wife's polytunnel, which did the trick in stopping it. He managed to restart it but the machine started moving (even in neutral) & he hit the wall again & had to pull a plug lead to stall it (wouldn't switch off). I went over today & sorted a load of engine elec. issues with ign & safety/kill switches, so enginewise all is well, which leaves the hydro to sort out...
I've not done anything with these, so would appreciate a few pointers. The manual disconnect to allow the transmission to be pushed or towed seems to work, but even in neutral, once this lever is released, the machine tries to move & the hydro clunks worryingly. Hopefully this may be just a linkage adjustment, but does anyone know if this is a common issue with these? We have no manual available, so tonight I will be googling to see what I can find.
He reports no oil leaks, so do hydrostatics normally need a fluid change or are they sealed for life (yeahhh!)?
