Surely trying to stop deforestation is a good thing? Attempting to improve soils...what's wrong with that. Protecting your own farming industry against meat production in other countries that fall short of your own environmental standards...is that wrong?

Spot on Jonp! I often wonder if civil servants are just completely clueless or if the govenment are just pawns of big business! Surely a government should be wanting their country to be safe and have food security.

I see from another current thread that Indian farmers are resisting corporate control of their farms.
Maybe they don't want to go down the same route as the USA and other 'developed' countries. ie us
