Apologies if there is already a thread on this but I couldn't find one. With the impending referendum now fixed for 23 June and with so many different long term aspects to consider, what is everyone's views on whether we should stay in or get out? A knee jerk reaction to EU legislation and all the ways the EU parliament affects the UK is easy but what would the best outcome be, not only for the country but obviously for the farming rural community ? I hear that Scotland are already saying that they want to stay in and should the rest of the UK vote to get out, they will hold another referendum which in their opinion will result in Scotland this time becoming independent. Lots of far reaching consequences to this vote and little non bias information.

The EU was fine while the rich Countries of Europe were the only members. Not sure now that so many poorer Eastern Countries have entered the club, as it appears all our wealth is heading there.

At least we have the Commonwealth Countries to fall back on if we leave the EU !?! I also think that if England leaves, other Countries will follow.

Let's get out and let the money drain even faster to a BRIC economy

Successive administrations of all colours have sold us out and our family silver to other countries; even guaranteeing profiteering from private monopolies such as the utilities. Can you imagine that happening in France?

So is the UK, have you never heard of the Civil Service? Yes Minister was a light hearted take on a decidedly non fiction topic

The UK civil service is still (more or less) accountable to elected UK members of parliament and most members of the civil service still live within the UK and are therefore directly affected by their actions. This is not the case in the EU which hasn't had its accounts signed off for last 14yrs.

There comes a point where the size of an organisation becomes unwieldy and loses its benefits. Why for instance do you think almost every multinational company splits its operations into more or less autonomous divisions based on geographic or operational lines. The current EU has passed that point. The old Common Market with it's original 6 members ,mostly northern european with similar economies cultures and ambitions, was probably about optimum for what it was trying to achieve. Since then the number has grown to 28 highly diverse members and it has extended its remit into almost every sphere of our lives. The EU as it now stands is unwieldy and unworkable as evinced by the shambles that is the eurozone.

If we vote to leave and that happens ( which the vote will be to leave but that will clearly not be allowed to happen just like in Ireland )
then we can still export/ buy from the EU even if we are not within it, to say otherwise is just a scare tactic.

You only need to stand on a bridge over the M20 to see lorry after lorry that are foreign plated bringing goods into the UK, the EU will not stop this as it would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Protect the UK's future @ vote out.

as a kiwi your kinda loseing me with the resons to stay in the EU i think history shows joining the EU has done agri and industry in the UK nothing great
being out won't stop us trading with the e.u and as for the sfp if we vote out it will be 7 years before we can leave and what will sfp be worth by then
I don't care about sfp really we shouldn't rely on that! But the EU is are closest trading country's and this strong pound is making it harder and harder to traid and if we get out of the EU and the pound just keeps getting stronger then all that will happen is more and more imports less and less industry! And how is it that better?? I don't understand? Please explain what I'm missing??
