I dont think we were ever told that the was the ultimate objective.
If you had read the Treaty of Rome you would have known about the end game. Unfortunately we entrust this to the politicians to look after our future. It is now well documented that there was a deliberate cover up by Heath and his government because they wanted to avoid spooking the public at the referendum to join the “Common Market”.
That is why we cannot trust politicians of any political persuasion.

I was 13 at the time and more interested in rugby and girls than politics

No wonder everyone still talks about it, it was the last and only time you won.

For the benefit of @Old McDonald the above comment is intended as light hearted banter, no malice or bitterness intended, hopefully non taken, Good luck in Japan later this year, the English team stand a good chance.

Newcastle United supporters still talk about winning the FA cup three times between 1951 and 1955.

I know there is no malice in it. I do not recall you being malicious in any of your posts.

It was in the small print, but it was there.
You are right I believe it was, funny why it wasnt made more of though, not. Just the same as a united states of europe is the objective and eu army is virtually here now. I have NO problem with either IF all the citizens of europe have a vote to decide, and amajority vote for it, I believe in democracy not this drip drip to the end game

Yet again today the EU has shown its true colours.

Barnier has said that if the UK crashes out with no deal, then the EU will never enter trade talks until the UK:-

1 pays the divorce settlement of £39bn
2 the Irish border issue is settled
3 citizens rights are protected

In other words, they will never talk to the UK until we sign the withdrawal agreement that parliament has rejected three times!

We can crash out with no deal but we will still have to sign the deal.

They seem to want to protect their union and aren't keen to allow outsiders to dictate protocol. Otherwise I suppose they wouldn't be much of a union.

We can always say no to a trade deal with them, plenty seem convinced we will be grand without the EU, we might find out soon.

Interesting times to be alive to witness.

Irrespective of how I voted in the referendum or what I think now Alex04w or whether I think it is right or wrong what would you expect the EU collective to say? It is becoming an unholy mess. Hey ho.

The absolute bottom line in Brussels is that "The Project" must be protected at all costs.
They wanted to kick out Greece to save the project.
They might just kick us out to save the project.
We could be independent on Saturday.

So imagine you do business with somebody and they treat you like this.
What do you say to them?
Or more accurately, where do you tell them (especially Mr Barnier) to go?

Who in their right mind would want to remain a member of such an organisation?
The is a principal at stake here. Now more than ever!

If the UK crashes out with no deal, which after all is what the hard line Brexitears want, then it is no deal, which includes no deal on trade, no deal on the divorce settlement, WTF are you complaining about? Barnier has just offered you exactly what you want. You do not have to sign a deal, that is what no deal means No deal.

No Deal on trade.
No Deal on the divorce settlement.

At least he is trying to look after citizens rights, which is probably also against what the hard liners want, after all they are only looking after themselves.
