EU triazole threat

It's a big concern for both osr and wheat, can't see them being lenient on us! I would imagine if that is the case then sdhi's will have full blown resistance by the time they get banned! But if you consider last years trial results triazoles do sweet FA in terms of eradication and we can at best be protectant on septoria, but rusts would be an issue!

Could be worse. There would still be various mildewicides, strobs, SDHIs, and spiroxamine etc.

But it is galling that we will just end up importing from other non-restriced countries - I expect they would prefer to see us not getting and SFP though. Hope ensus is running on non-GM corn :(

Triazoles may be less effective against many cereal diseases than they used to be, but they are usefull in helping preventing resistance to SDHI's etc. Wheat growing in high disease risk areas, of which we are in one, is already becoming difficult. We need all the armery available to continue growing cereals. Without them its either no cereal crops or old style farming with less N, smaller canopys with less disease pressure, but also less yield as a result.. Brussles needs to put the breaks on and realise the consequences of their decisions. If they actually want a large reduction in EU production then OK, but the blame is at their door not ours.

If it's not one thing, it's another.

However, if the EU did go down the road of banning the use of triazoles, surely farming pressure groups could argue the case of banning the import of cereals from 'lax' countries that still permit their use?

That does not always seem to work with some other commodities? Soya and Maize imported into EU, I assume some is GM, how many imports of grain already use products we once found useful but have lost, I dony know but trifluralin and the like, In meat imports I cant imagine the Thai chicken we import is up to the same standards as the stuff we produce, etc etc. The farm lobby will of coarse try, a few years ago the Irish Farmers Association faught a long sussessfull fight against beef imports from South America. But its difficult. I would personally like to see more effort in stoping Brussels from introducing any more legislation for a while.
