You make a good point regarding the vaccine take-up. I rather like President Macron's stance about French / Western values and not compromising on freedom of expression in the case of Islamo-nutters, but he seems to be playing politics with his people's health. There's an election next year and he may be playing to it; this may work, or it may come back to bite him - but since Ms Le Pen is his likely opponent, he probably isn't that concerned, yet.

But his stance will backfire
if the French will not take up a noon French vaccine
then next year during the election the French will either be in a long lockdown or inthe middle of a 3 wave
this will play into the hands of the opposition party at the election which could get le pen elected and be a bad day for free democratic elections on a par with the American electing trump

I think the EU commission was stupid and I can't see what it had to do with their argument with AZ. But was it something to do with Bozza threatening to invoke Article 16 against them the previous week?

Now I have never defended BJ in the past (and am not really comfortable doing it now) but from your quoted article he said:

Speaking to the Commons Liaison Committee later on Wednesday Mr Johnson insisted that the situation with Great Britain/Northern Ireland trade was "far better than some people had perhaps expected, things are much smoother".

The Prime Minister acknowledged "there are some problems" but "they are by and large small, soluble questions which one-by-one we are addressing".

He insisted any bureaucracy was "incredibly light touch, insofar as we have to do any checks at all" and "it is working well".

That is a far cry from actually invoking Article 16.

Bare in mind that some supermarket shelves in NI were actually empty at the time. Compare that with a lack of supply of a vaccine that had literally only been authorised by the EU at best an hour or so before the EU did as a matter of fact evoke Article 16, it seems in a somewhat different league to me.

we have enough vaccine in the pipeline and plenty spare by the summer to help our friends
the Eu realised that a vaccine trade war would mean we exported to any where but the Eu

if the uks factories keep the pace up we will be exporting hundreds of millions of doses by the autumn
or not needing some of the Eu produced vaccine on order that will be diverted for Eu use

I hope there is a plan to supply Ireland because the amount of cross border travel could really mess things up if their vaccination levels remain lower than ours.

I think very few eu countries know what the troubles meant on the island of Ireland and if they did they are really stupid which idicates their level of stupitidy in any case

I think they were stupid and should have discussed it with Dublin before ever mentioning anything. But the EU has plenty of border disputes and to a commissioner who may live thousands of miles away, probably just sees it like any other. After all, care to comment on the various on-going border disputes between Croatia and Serbia for example.

At no point have the French said they'll only use French vaccine! Where do you get this from?
The Robert Koch institute have said it cannot recommend the AZ vaccine in over 60s. It's a well respected institute.

There are corrupt people in every country, some are worse than others, those in positions of influence tend to be worse than most, by that I mean from.parish council upwards including public officials . Then again who on this site have never pocketed a few quid in cash ?
