If they had been interested enough they could have been registered at their home address from the date they were eligible - for all elections. In times past (before internet registration) students did this and obtained a postal vote if required.

Here are some links regarding schoolchildren, the referendum and "voting":

https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-news/schoolchildren-vote-remain-eu

Note the tender ages of these children. Note also the middle link about the majority (a big majority) of teachers wanting to remain. There have been plenty of complaints on this forum and others, about teachers pushing their vegetarian ideas. I feel the same about what dthey did leading up to the referendum.

Not that it matters, because we are leaving. I would not be surprised if Juncker insists we are thrown out before Christmas.

Don't kid yourself , they NEED our money.

Is Portugal being thrown out of the eu?!

I am not kidding myself about anything. I do not see the relevance of your post to mine. However, I do entirely agree that the EU desperately needs an ongoing contribution of large proportions from somewhere outside the other 27.

I think you underestimate this small country which has been an ally of England (specifically) and later the rest of the UK for several hundred years. One of the extremely few countries that has never been at war with us.

It has certainly taken advantage of the EU handouts, and had it not been for one administration overspending to gain popularity Portugal would not have needed bailing out.

I look at it this way , Spain is the bit France didn't want and Portugal is the bit Spain didn't want . QED . :)

QED means you have proven your point. You have not.

You have conjectured and are incorrect. Spain and Portugal are both bits that France wanted. In earlier times Spain did have Portugal but were defeated sufficient times that they withdrew.

Portugal, with the most obvious and necessary help of wellies first defeated the French at Buçaco and it was all downhill for the frogs after that. They were driven from Spain too.

The French were actually billeted in and around my house and land during the Peninsular campaign.

So the French, and Germans, who have continually lost countries they have conquered, eventually formed the EEC with some other non-entities. They are desperate to hold onto this political sop to feed their egos. They have both failed for centuries to assert their military prowess but in this "enlightened" age see politics and Treaties as the way to assert their perceived superior status.

So far they appear to be succeeding because other enlightened politicians have permitted them to do so.

The worst decision the French ever made was the "Louisiana Purchase" were Napoleon sold France's half of America to the United States at a bargain price in order to finance his war with the UK. If it had remained French two thirds of the current US would probably be French. How wrong can you get it.:D:banghead:

I think it is probably impossible to beat the achievements of would be world dictators.

A genuine question to you. Given unlimited funds, how much land would you want to farm?

So as not to put you off whatever you feel, if I had many millions I would want the peace and quiet of a few thousand acres somewher in the north and west of Scotland. It would not be farmed in the conventional sense of course - i.e. growing crops and filled with hill cattle and ewes, but I would still want to be able to wander at will. The most I ever owned was a little over 3000 acres and I thoroughly enjoyed "walking" that on hoseback every day.

I thought you would ask me something simple like the perfect solution to Brexit.:D

It's an impossible question isn't it? Today I would say I have the right amount for what I want/need (220 ac) and didn't feel any urge when the farm next door came up for sale earlier this year. But I did buy here partly for it's attractive landscape rather than the quality of the soil. None of my kids have any interest in farming so no pressure there. As I get older I just look at ways of simplifying the setup so I can keep enjoying life here, but I am sure one day I will throw in the towel and buy a camping car

@Muck Spreader I think when someone answers the question it says a lot about them. You are obviously satisfied with what you have. Some others would have had to buy the next door place.

Same with some people on a grander scale. They want to conquer the country next door and the next and the next........ Other people in a similar position are quite happy to just be King or whatever of their own country.

As I get older I just look at ways of simplifying the setup so I can keep enjoying life here, but I am sure one day I will throw in the towel and buy a camping car

That is what I do too. Almost all my ag work is off the seat of a tractor. Harvesting and pruning are hand done, as is the kitchen garden so I dstill get plenty of strenuous exercise.

We could have bought another 40 Hc, decided to buy a cottage and did it up instead.
