EVENT: Brexit Seminar, Newark, 15th March

With our Article 50 notice about to be served, the reality of Brexit is beginning to hit home. On the face of it, farms and estates could be more significantly affected than some other sectors as a new “British agricultural policy” takes shape. This is your opportunity to hear from a team of experts from across the professions, not just about how Brexit could impact the sector but about what steps you can take now to stay ahead of the game.

Chairman

Guy Smith – NFU Vice President

Speakers

  • Julie Robinson – Partner, Roythornes Solicitors
All change on the ground? Brexit has massive legal implications, but the real question is what changes farms and estates can expect to current regimes. NVZs, employment, Producer Organisations, water law, food labelling, tenancy law and the shape of new support schemes will all feature in Julie’s list of ‘things to watch for’.

  • Mark Chatterton – Director, Duncan & Toplis
Tax planning in a volatile market – with fluctuating profits it’s more important than ever to be on top of your capital allowances and reliefs. Good tax planning has never been as important as it is now.

  • James Black - Senior Associate, Brown & Co
Fit for the future – what strategies could businesses be adopting now to generate additional income or reduce costs. Does the uncertainly generate any opportunities and if so, how should they be approached?

  • Michael Summers Area Director Agriculture, Lloyds Bank
Financial risk management – with reduced financial support from 2020, planning and forecasting will take a greater role in agri-businesses. How can managing the risks around exchange and interest rates make your business more robust and able to meet the challenges ahead?

Our speakers will be followed by an open question session which will give you the opportunity to ask the experts their views on the issues that matter most.

Registration is from 5:30pm, with the seminar starting at 6:00pm. It will finish by 8:00pm after a buffet supper.
