Yeah, we get loads of 'em here and the majority are perfectly pleasant. It's just one or two of their dogs that can be a problem 🙄

We're about to get a sh!t load more of 'em too ...

...had the landlord and the local council here last week and they want to put another footpath in to link up with two more that we already have in order 'to enhance the local walking experience'.

We've become a bit of a dog walking hotspot. The vast majority are fine. I've asked a couple of them to keep the dogs off the silage as they just see it as "grass" rather than my crop. Tbh the person I have to remind the most is a local chap who should know better.

Had one, 6 dogs no poo bags and all out of control in my calf hutches. I could here her screaming at my staff from my office when asked to put them on leads. Apparently they were fully trained gun dogs and didn’t need leads.

Fortunately they have now moved, all the other dogs walkers are nice and lots of regulars go past the dairy.

See any Fuch ing dogs out here n they’ll get shot . . .

dog walkers as such are not an issue for us ( although stray domestic & feral wild dogs are a big problem ), plenty of parks n footpaths & places to walk dogs in town, no need to come out here

I am a Team Leader for the Parks & Gardens department of our local Council. The main town population is about 12,000 people, the whole shire is around a population of 20,000 ?
with P & G, we are responsible for around 400 hectares of “green” areas, including parks, sports grounds, cemeteries, reserves etc etc
Plenty of “public” space to walk in, apart from the fact that all our streets have footpaths beside them . . .

Don’t your towns & villages have parks or sports grounds or open spaces or footpaths along streets where people can walk ?

Yes.

But folk like to take the leads off and let their mutts tear around.

Britain lacks quite a bit of land owned by the "state". Its mostly owned by somebody, and that somebody seldom likes others traipsing about on it.

Most dog owners don’t really want to walk/exercise their dogs, they just want somewhere to empty their bowls that isn’t their own back yard. They can’t do it on parks or village greens because they are watched so they tend to just let the dog off the lead in nearest field and let them sh!t away. In towns, this is often playing/sports fields, Appleby and Penrith, our local towns have big problems with dog mess on footy pitches - selfish and disgusting.

Some dog owners are pleasant but I would say 7 out of 10 are the most entitled, self centred arse holes you could ever meet, seem to think if they have a dog it gives them the right to walk and behave how they want. Dogs off leads around toddlers makes me really nervous, Some dogs just want throttled.

Issue, I think, is there's just so many dogs these days. A must have accessory. Parks and sports grounds just end up knee deep in dog shite, therefore doggers seek out farmland to hold private dog crapping events. Plus there's a general " Farmers don't own the countryside, it's for everyone to enjoy " mentality in the UK. I'd be slightly more keen if dog owners at least asked permission, but no, they generally introduce themselves here by letting Fenton take a giant dump on my lawn.

And British dog owners have lots of rights, but they don't seem to recognise that there are any corresponding responsibilities. I suppose they are just mirroring the views of the general population!

Letter the other week informing me that they intend making the footpath through our farm yard a “national trail” oh joy, mood not improved by the fact that the county council map now seems to show the footpath going 40 foot further north than it used too, the interesting bit is that would put the path through the middle of the cow cubicles (shed put up in the 1940’s) and on through what was in the 70’s and 80’s the slurry pit.
Looks like some pillock had looked at the sat photos and decided the cow tracks must be the footpath🙈🤯

I think we could say not only dog owners, but cyclists, horse owners, definitely tractor drivers too!

Do your Councils or local government have “dog catchers”, or fine people for loose dogs, unchipped ( micro chip ) dogs, etc etc ?
We have a dog catcher ( every local government / local Council area in Australia does ) & we impound unrestrained dogs, that owners have to pay a fine to release. Otherwise, they are not long for this world . . .
As for dogs attacking livestock, other dogs or people - our police have the power ( & they use it ) to shoot or otherwise dispatch them

Sounds like you better write back and tell them the details of this. Including photos of maps etc.

nice to see people from other countries comment on problems us UK farmers face? truth is that many other countries just dont realise how small and crowded with people alot of the UK is? This for us that have been born and say grown up in the same area has changed very quickly in the last 40 odd years and is still changing? I dont know at all what the amount of people development or change is like in the Australians home area, but in my home area the population growth has been over 3 times as much as what it was 50 years ago? and still growing? All that growth brings many many problems, dogs just being one?

A small bunch of dog walkers destroyed our parish council, they were so unpleasant with their demands all the cllrs worth having resigned. Wanted to use the football pitches for dog walking, expected council to buy land for a dog walking field etc. Consistently kept posting lies in Facebook.
