Every day with them outside now is a bonus

We really need a dislike option on here to @bobk , about an hour away and we have basically had no rain bar 3/4 days and that would be classed as a shower. Had some late born jan calves and fair few feb calves that I thought would really show themselves at suckled calf sales with extra strength and size and muscle, first year of selling suckled calves rather than stores, weaned some even though I thought wrong thing to do,wish id weaned may born things and chucked on add lib cereal for a few weeks, cows running in sheds for feed, good hay but maybe a tmr would get more milk, but actually wouldn't they have dried up, and before I get "good cows that milk scenario" we are talking mostly first cross homebred dairy, our silage ground made in first week in june has just changed from a yellow colour, now stands about 1.5cm high nearly green, those jan/ feb calves will be worth probably 50 quid less than may calves as gone so stale look empty, will be a great buy for someone, guarantee they will be back next year!!

35 acres fourth cut this week, not a great yield at all but better than nothing at just over two bales/acre and might make a big difference for us at the other end of the winter. We’ve same amount of grass we’re about to turn a bunch of cows and three/four month old calves out on so if this weather stays as kind as it has been, they’ll be out for a good few weeks yet - fencing has been order of day here !

Most years I wouldn’t drive the quad threw here

I’ve got a 14 acre re seed and 12 acres of westerwolds that are getting too much for sheep , so will either have a lot of fencing for cattle or get contractors in to mow it.
Anyone know where there’s a cheap direct cut forage harvester ?

I'm thinking of getting the mower out .
My re seed and the westerwolds. Not the best fenced fields and cattle happy enough on forage crop, so debated what to do.
Don’t have my own mower etc, asked around for anyone with an old direct cut to zero graze, but ended up sending pics to my sheep man who is sending some earlier than normal .
