Evolution saw for cutting metal

I'm attempting to repair an approx 3mette square barn door which was made out of 2" tube with plain metal galvanised sheeting bolted to it. The bottom length of tubing is half rotten away and I'd like to replace it. My planned repair technique is shown on the attached sketch for the bottom left corner of the door, right corner would be the same, with 3 metres of new tube and 6 inch vertical upstands to be welded to the left and right sides. I'm using the upstands as I figure when I cut out the bottom piece I'll find some of the upright will be rotten as well. I plan to use a short length of 42mm (supposedly 41.28mm od) tube pushed inside the new bottom section and the upright to keep it true while being welded.

So that's the plan! It hinges a lot on making accurate mitre joints' for the bottom corners so I can weld them. My question is - I have an Evolution sliding mitre saw and the blade is supposedly good for steel, but has anyone ever used them for steel and what's the experience.

Ive the one with two tubes , slides ,
I rate it , mine will cut 50x50x3 box no drama , go slow , poss squirt a lube.
Think mine says 6mm ?
Bought mine for pallet wood, firewood. I like it, also find evo fair to deal with, thru screwfix.
I used the saw to cut box for its bench.

I've got one it's fine for mild steel. Probably better things available but if it fits in the clamp it will cut it (apart from hardened steel)
Check the angles for the mitres on some scrap first as the angles on the saw itself might not be 100% accurate.

i reckon wear goggles when using them because the bitsthat fly off around the guard are not easy to see because they arent red hot land can catch you unawares.

As long as you don't cut topper blades with it

Fresh blade & good PPE are order of the day if cutting box or tube. If possible go for a face shield rather than just goggles as the hot swarf is decidedly unpleasant if it hits your face - or any other bare skin.

Check, double check and check again on the angles as the markings on the saw will almost certainly not be true to either the fence or the blade. I've never found lube or coolant to make much difference unless the blade is getting a bit blunt.

I've said it b4 but me mate cut loads of bosses for digger buckets , 65mm pin so greater than .
On his evo , the metal cutting one 14" blade.
Not saying it a good plan but watched him do loads.

Thanks all for your replies -and particularly the safety tip, hadn’t thought about the need to protect the whole of my face.

Lifted the door off yesterday and carefully cut out the bottom bar along the welded mitre joints., looks like the uprights are sound so will only need to make a replacement piece with a mitre either end rather than the complication I’d originally enviaged.
