Last year was my first year sheep farming I bought 110 ewes in and I grazed them all on nice regrowth grass and I put out the rumenco high energy plus fish oil biscuit blocks out for then about 3week before tupping and all through tupping when it came to scanning the ewes we had 36singles 63twins 7triplets and 4empty. I was looking through farmers guardian I saw another sheep farmer using the same blocks and he has a high percentage of twin does anyone else have this

I would think that is a perfect scanning for lleyn ewes. Twinning rate is good isn’t it, you might get get a higher percentage but you will just end up with more triplets. Are you lambing outside?

Our AI man recommends sugar beet and cod liver oil. Probably on to something if all the ewes were prepared to take it.

1.7-1.8 lambs ish without getting calculator out is about really maybe could be a little higher too aim to lamb out at 1.7-1.8 but I wouldn’t say it’s too bad really… only really mules that will push over the 200% mark

If you are new to the job be aware of snake oils that make all sheep scan and rear twins. What you have done is exactly the right thing. Plenty of grass or roots (I tupped 400 ewes last year on beet spread on stubble) and maybe some energy buckets, as long as they have this 3 weeks before and 6 weeks after tups go in you will get the full potential out of the ewes. We scan between 240% (mules) right down to 120% (welsh) and everything in between but I think 170-180 is perfect for most profit.
