Ewe nuts

I have been starting ewes on sbp in the winter and moving onto a compound nearer lambing. What I have found is although they love the straight sbp and it satisfies them very well, in March you start to see them losing a bit of hair on the bridge of their noses, this hair grows back quite quickly after moving onto the compound, although they never forgive me for the change, they much prefer the sbp.

This year I’m starting them on an 80:20 sbp:18% compound to provide a bit more protein which is what I think is missing early on, and it gets them used to the compound, then nearer lambing I’ll gradually change the ratio to 20:80, hopefully keeping them happier and healthier!

What does losing the nose hair indicate?

I know what you mean. I’ve got some steep banks and dry open woodland so we can get the snacker in. I would feed nothing but SBP for the reasons you mention! But they do need that bit extra as they get too lambing. Usually swap them onto compound over the course of 10 days.
Another major bonus of the sbp is that the birds have zero interest in it.

I hear carrs is very goodlocal dairy man moved to them from another local mill and he said significant improvement, Rekon analysis the other feed was substandard hence the big improvement 🤷‍♂️ all a bit second hand but does worry me.

I ran out one year and bought a pallet of carrs stuff to finish them off, amusingly when I went back to my other feed sheep were not impressed and just walked off only cleared it when they realised that was it!
Do carrs buy off Bibby feeds? I’m North Yorkshire so mostly carrs Jameson’s or iansons

We were Johnson’s from Darley Dale men for years. Then GLW bought them out and we started too notice differences in the performance. Fell out with them over 2 consecutive loads of crap beef blend. Swapped all sheep feed and partial beef corn too Carrs and so far have been very pleased
