Sorting through some gimmer shearlings to keep.
I noticed ewe with really bad orange/brown urine stains around her back end? Is this something of concern? should I keep her??

future maggot issues ? its a fault , would look to cull unless its an exceptional ewe and you remember to manage it with fly protection , may also be an injury from shearing , that will have a bearing on keeping offspring

Never keep a ewe who can’t keep herself clean. Thats what I’ve always been told, guessing it’s due too maggots?
I think there’s something in the free Martin theory as well!
No maggots just discoloured around the back end. No muck.
What is the martin theory.
I have heard that saying before.

We had a lamb known as Sheepies Squint who we chanced as a gimmer. After whatever stress, strains and stretching of lambing she went through she stopped and became Sheepies Straight.

Get a few with shapier ewe lambs. They’re bigger issue with maggots is usually on the top of their shoulders even then. If your maggot control can’t cope with a couple of messy pissers you’d better cull her, but I reckon you’d lose out on what could be an otherwise decent ewe, especially since they tend to grow out of it.

Many years ago…helped out at a neighbours during a TB check….
Once that was over….Neighbour ran a heifer up the race and into the crate..
Now bear in mind the word “Freemartin”
Vet enquired what was needing to be done with this one….
Neighbour who had a bit of a weakness for getting the wrong word at times replied..
”Could you put your hand in there and tell me if she is a Freemason?”
