I ve got 40 texel ewes to house, due to lamb over next two weeks....How long should I expect a 4ft round bale to last them? .They ll also be getting a good feed of ewe nuts too .
Thanks in advance

I would say more like five days.

The bale will be about 200kg dry matter. Ewes will by approximately 80kg and be looking for about 2% body weight in dry matter per day, so 1.6kg. So maybe 0.6kg nuts and 1kg hay daily?
They will be getting 0.75kg of nuts so I was hoping a bale would last around 5 days

my lot , 50 ewes make a dry welgar bale ( a day off hay) last 3 -4 days , more or less
EDIT: and i leave string on to hold bale together , or ewes drag half out on floor

Thanks I might get 5 days with 40 ewes then...they ll be bedded on hay ,cheaper than straw round these parts, so it doesn't matter if they pull a bit on floor
